Claims

Abstract

A hand held nail polish removal tool includes a housing having a main body connected by an elongated neck to a head. An abrasive member is removably attached to the head and the tool contains a motor or transducer for causing the abrasive member to move so that when the abrasive member is positioned against a finger or toe nail, the abrasive member will abrade away any polish on the nail. The polish removal process may be accelerated by applying a solvent to the head attachment or member. This may be done by dipping that member in a solvent or by including a solvent in the member or by incorporating a solvent dispensing system in the housing which allows a solvent to be delivered via the head to the member's abrasive surface. Various different abrasive members for attachment to the head are disclosed.

1 . An attachment for a nail polish removal tool comprising a solvent-carrying member, and a securement for removably securing the member to a movable working surface of the tool so that a substantial percentage of the working surface movement transmits to said member.  
   
   
       2 . The tool defined in  claim 1  wherein said member comprises plastic fibers.  
   
   
       3 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein said member comprises absorbent foam.  
   
   
       4 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein said member comprises an abrasive textile material.

The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein said member comprises a swab having a porous layer that provides said solvent-carrying member, a plastic fiber layer that provides an abrasive surface and a flexible non-stretchable stabilizing layer sandwiched between said porous and said plastic fiber layers.  
   
   
       6 . The tool defined in  claim 5  wherein said securement includes a fastening device on said stabilizing layer.  
   
   
       7 . The attachment defined in  claim 5  and further including a body of solvent in said solvent-carrying member.  
   
   
       8 . The tool defined in  claim 7  wherein the solvent is contained in the porous layer.  
   
   
       9 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein the solvent-carrying member comprises abrasive plastic fiber having a compliant backing layer.  
   
   
       10 . The attachment defined in  claim 9  and further including a solvent contained in the backing layer.  
   
   
       11 . The attachment defined in  claim 9  and further including a solvent absorbed in the backing layer.  
   
   
       12 . The attachment defined in  claim 9  wherein the solvent-carrying member includes a flexible porous layer sandwiched between the abrasive plastic fiber and the backing layer.  
   
   
       13 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  and further including an abrasive solvent absorbed in the solvent-carrying member.  
   
   
       14 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein the securement includes cooperating retainers on the working surface and the solvent-carrying member.  
   
   
       15 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein the securement comprises a fastening device defining a key or keyway that interfits with the tool.  
   
   
       16 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein the securement comprises a field of hook or loop fasteners.  
   
   
       17 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  wherein the securement comprises a shell attached to the solvent-carrying member, said shell having a perforated bottom wall flush with said member and a flexible resilient side wall extending from the bottom wall in the direction facing away from the solvent-carrying member and defining an open top, said side wall being adapted to releasably engage the tool.  
   
   
       18 . The attachment defined in  claim 17  and further including a solvent material in the shell.  
   
   
       19 . The attachment defined in  claim 18  and further including a sealing strip releasably engaged to said side wall and covering the open top.  
   
   
       20 . The attachment defined in  claim 18  and further including a cover releasably engaged to the shell over the open top thereof.  
   
   
       21 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  and further including a body of solvent on or in the solvent-carrying member.  
   
   
       22 . The attachment defined in  claim 21  wherein the body of solvent is a nail polish removal solvent.  
   
   
       23 . The attachment defined in  claim 21  and further including sealing means for sealing the body of solvent from the atmosphere.  
   
   
       24 . The attachment defined in  claim 7  and further including sealing means for sealing said body of solvent from the atmosphere.  
   
   
       25 . The attachment defined in  claim 1  and further including sealing means releasably secured to the solvent-carrying member for isolating any solvent therein from the atmosphere.
