Abstract
A method of transposing a nonautonomous transposon gene of rice ( Oryza sativa ) comprises culturing anthers of rice or treating seeds, leaves, stems oracallus of auxiliary buds of rice with 5-azacytidine or 5-deazadeoxycytidine. A plant is produced by the transposition method of the invention.

21 . A method for determining the species of a plant comprising a transposon, wherein said transposon comprises a nucleotide sequence at least 95% identical to SEQ ID NO: 1 , said method comprising:
(a) determining the nucleotide sequence of plant DNA segments comprising the transposon, employing as a primer either an oligonucleotide comprising at least 10 consecutive bases of SEQ ID NO: 1, or an oligonucleotide having a sequence that is complementary thereto; (b) confirming the presence of the transposon in said plant DNA segments; (c) fractioning the plant DNA segments to obtain a pattern or sequence thereof; (d) comparing said pattern or sequence obtained in step (c) with pre-determined DNA patterns or sequences from fractioned DNA representative of different plant species, thereby determining the plant species of the DNA comprising the transposon comprising a nucleotide sequence at least 95% identical to SEQ ID NO: 1.
