Abstract

Since both a physical storage place and a logical storage place in a storage system are separately managed as a directory structure, or a hierarchical structure, even in such a case that the physical storage place has been changed, the logical storage place which is displayed to the user is not changed, and thus, the user can use the file while the user need not become aware of the change of the file. When the contents of a file is displayed, a physical storage destination of the file is acquired based upon both a reference path and a relative path of the file, and then, the file is acquired from the physical storage destination.

4 . A data managing method as claimed in claim 1 wherein:
both said first storage structure of the data and said second storage structure of the data have been managed as paths respectively.

5 . A data managing method as claimed in claim 4 wherein:
in such a case that a value which is calculated based upon information as to a plurality of data under a predetermined path can satisfy a predetermined storage destination changing condition, said plurality of data under said path, which can satisfy said storage destination changing condition, are moved from the storage place within said second storage structure to a storage place under such a path which is designated by said storage destination changing condition; and within said corresponding information, said second information is changed into information which indicates the storage place after said data has been moved; and such an information for establishing a correspondence relationship between said first information and said changed second information is stored into said second storage apparatus.

6 . A data managing method as claimed in claim 5 wherein:
said first storage apparatus and said second storage apparatus are the same storage apparatus.

7 . A data managing method as claimed in claim 5 wherein:
the storage place under the path which is designated by said storage destination changing condition corresponds to a back-up apparatus.

8 . A data managing method as claimed in claim 5 wherein:
the storage place before said data is moved corresponds to a storage apparatus owned by a storage system, and the storage place after said data is moved corresponds to a storage apparatus which is owned by another storage system connected to the first-mentioned storage system.

9 . A data managing method for managing data, wherein:
as to a data storage structure of a first storage apparatus, there are a first storage structure which is displayed and a second storage structure for a managing purpose, while the respective first and second storage structures correspond to storage structures of different systems; a designation of a storage place of a data within said first storage structure is accepted; the information of said data selects a storage place within said second storage structure, which can satisfy a predetermined condition; said data is stored into said selected storage place; and such an information is stored in a second storage apparatus, while said information establishes a correspondence relationship between information which indicates said selected storage place within said second storage structure, and information which indicates said designated storage place within said first storage structure.

10 . A data managing method as claimed in claim 9 wherein:
said second storage place is managed by a path; the information of said data selects a path which can satisfy said predetermined condition; and while a place under said selected path is used as a storage place within_said second storage structure, said data is stored thereinto.

11 . A data managing method as claimed in claim 10 wherein:
said first storage apparatus and said second storage apparatus are the same storage apparatus.

12 . A data managing system for managing data, wherein:
as to a data storage structure of a first storage apparatus, there are a first storage structure which is displayed and a second storage structure for a managing purpose, while the respective first and second storage structures correspond to storage structures of different systems; and said data managing system is comprised of a second storage apparatus for storing thereinto information which establishes a correspondence relationship between first information which indicates a storage place of data by said first storage structure, and second information which indicates said storage place of said data by said second storage structure.

13 . A data managing system as claimed in claim 12 , further comprising:
a display apparatus for displaying said first information and said second information in correspondence with each other based upon said corresponding information.

14 . A data managing system as claimed in claim 13 wherein:
