Abstract
Fertile transgenic Zea mays (corn) plants which stably express recombinant DNA which is heritable are provided wherein said DNA preferably comprises a recombinant gene which encodes a seed storage protein, so that the amino acid profile of the corn is improved.

10 . An inbred glyphosate-tolerant transgenic Zea mays plant prepared by a process comprising:
(a) crossing an initial fertile transgenic Zea mays plant comprising a recombinant DNA sequence encoding EPSP synthase, wherein the EPSP synthase is expressed to confer the glyphosate tolerance, and wherein said DNA sequence is heritable, with a plant of an elite inbred Zea mays line; (b) recovering glyphosate tolerant transgenic progeny plants from said cross comprising the recombinant DNA sequence; (c) backcrossing a transgenic progeny plant with a plant of said elite inbred Zea mays line; (d) recovering glyphosate-tolerant transgenic progeny plants from said cross comprising the recombinant DNA sequence; and (e) repeating steps (b) and (c) to obtain said inbred glyphosate-tolerant transgenic Zea mays plant.
11 . The plant of claim 10 , wherein the elite inbred Zea mays line lacks the recombinant DNA.
12 . A hybrid transgenic glyphosate-tolerant hybrid plant prepared by crossing the inbred plant of claim 10 with a plant of a different inbred Zea mays line, and recovering said glyphosate-tolerant hybrid plant.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
