Point-of-purchase-display system and device including a video

Abstract

A point of purchase system carrying consumer articles that are for sale and displaying information about the articles comprises a pegboard mounting plural point of purchase devices. Each device carries plural packaged articles that are for sale and a placard at the end of the device remote from the pegboard so it is farther from the mounting structure than the articles. The placard has a video display showing information about the articles and a sample of the article so the display and sample article are clearly visible without obstruction to purchasers.

A point of purchase system for carrying consumer articles that are for sale and for displaying information about the articles, the articles being physically coupled with a hanger mechanism, the system comprising a vertically extending mounting structure, a plurality of point of purchase devices mounted on said mounting structure, each of said devices including an elongated element for receiving and carrying a plurality of hanger mechanisms and the articles associated therewith, each element including a structure for enabling the element to be mounted on the vertically extending mounting structure so the elements extend generally at right angles from the mounting structure, a video display positioned at the end of at least one of the elements removed from the mounting structure and farther from the mounting structure than the articles carried by at least one of the elements, the video display being arranged for displaying a video about one of the articles on said mounting structure and in such a manner that said displayed video and said articles that are for sale are clearly visible to a prospective purchaser of the article.

The point of purchase system according to  claim 1 , further including a memory for storing information about one of the articles on the mounting structure, the memory and the video display being adapted to be coupled with each other for enabling the video display to be responsive to the information stored in the memory about one of the articles.  
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2 , wherein the memory is arranged for continuously supplying the video information to the video display.  
     
     
         4 . The point of purchase system of  claim 1 , wherein the video display includes a liquid crystal display.  
     
     
         5 . The point of purchase system of  claim 2 , wherein the memory is of the dynamic type and is mounted on the vertically extending mounting structure.  
     
     
         6 . The point of purchase system of  claim 1 , wherein the memory is located in a tamper-proof housing.  
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the housing is mounted on a front face of the vertically extending mounting structure.  
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 2 , wherein the memory is mounted on the rear face of the vertically extending mounting structure.  
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 2  further including a placard at the end of the at least one of the elements, the placard carrying the video display and a sample of the article so that the sample of the article is clearly visible to the prospective purchaser.  
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 1  further including a placard at the end of the at least one of the elements, the placard carrying the video display and a sample of the article so that the sample of the article is clearly visible to the prospective purchaser.  
     
     
         11 . A point of purchase device for an article for sale at a retail establishment, the establishment having a structure for carrying the article, the device comprising a mounting adapted to be fixedly carried by the structure, the mounting carrying a video display for displaying video information about the article.  
     
     
         12 . The device of  claim 11  further including a memory for storing video information about the article, the memory and display being adapted to be coupled with each other for enabling the video display to be responsive to the video information stored in the memory.  
     
     
         13 . The device of  claim 12  wherein the mounting carries the memory.  
     
     
         14 . The device of  claim 13  wherein the memory comprises a dynamic medium.  
     
     
         15 . The device of  claim 13  wherein the memory comprises a semiconductor memory.  
     
     
         16 . The device of  claim 15  wherein the video display comprises an LCD, the semiconductor memory and LCD being integrated circuits on a substrate arrangement carried by the mounting, the mounting including a DC power supply arranged for energizing the memory and LCD.  
     
     
         17 . In combination, a point of purchase device for an article on sale at a retail establishment, a structure for carrying the article, a mounting fixedly carried by the structure, the mounting carrying a video display for displaying video information about the article and a memory that stores video information about the article, the memory and display being coupled with each other for causing the video display to be responsive to the video information stored in the memory.  
     
     
         18 . The combination of  claim 17  wherein the memory comprises a dynamic medium.  
     
     
         19 . The combination of  claim 17  wherein the memory comprises a semiconductor memory.  
     
     
         20 . The combination of  claim 19  wherein the video display comprises an LCD, the semiconductor memory and LCD being integrated circuits on a substrate arrangement carried by the mounting, the mounting including a DC power supply arranged for energizing the memory and LCD.
