Abstract
An endodontic instrument is described that has includes a shaft that includes an end, a tip, one or more flutes, and a longitudinal axis. At least one flute includes a cutting edge configured to cut when the shaft is rotated in a first direction of rotation about the longitudinal axis. The at least one flute does not spiral around the shaft in the first direction of rotation.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An endodontic instrument, comprising:
a shaft having an shank end, a tip, one or more flutes and a longitudinal axis, wherein the instrument is narrower at the tip than the shank end, the instrument is configured to rotate about the longitudinal axis in a first direction, the flutes extend down at least a portion of the shaft and when viewed from the shank end, the flutes do not spiral in the first direction, at least one flute has a cutting edge configured to cut when the shaft is rotated in the first direction.
2 . The instrument of claim 1 , wherein the first direction is clockwise.
3 . The instrument of claim 2 , wherein the cutting edge is on a right had side of the flute.
4 . The instrument of claim 1 , wherein the flutes spiral in a direction opposite to the first direction.
5 . The instrument of claim 1 , wherein the one or more flutes have S-shaped splines.
6 . The instrument of claim 4 , wherein the tip is a non-cutting tip.
7 . The instrument of claim 4 , wherein the tip is a cutting tip.
8 . The instrument of claim 1 , wherein the cutting edge of the flute has a zero cutting angle.
9 . The instrument of claim 8 , wherein a cross section of the shaft has a quadrilateral-like shape.
10 . The instrument of claim 8 , wherein a cross section of the shaft has a triangle-like shape.
11 . The instrument of claim 1 , wherein the shaft is fabricated from one of Ni—Ti and Ni—Ti alloy.
12 . The instrument of claim 1 , further comprising an attachment for coupling the shank end of the instrument to an engine operable to rotate the instrument.
13 . The instrument of claim 1 , wherein the first direction is clockwise and the flutes spiral around the shaft in a counterclockwise direction.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
