Abstract
A deicing composition is provided. The composition includes a potassium or sodium salt of a carboxylic acid and a lithium salt of a carboxylic acid or lithium nitrate, wherein the molar ratio of lithium to potassium or lithium to sodium is from 10 percent to 80 percent.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A deicing composition comprising:
a) a potassium or sodium salt of a carboxylic acid; and b) a lithium salt of a carboxylic acid or a lithium nitrate, wherein the molar ratio of lithium to potassium or lithium to sodium is from 10 percent to 80 percent.
2 . The deicing composition according to claim 1 , wherein the carboxylic acid is selected from the group consisting of formic, acetic, propionic, glycolic, and lactic acids, or mixtures thereof.
3 . A deicing composition according to claim 1 further comprising a corrosion inhibitor.
4 . A deicing composition according to claim 3 wherein the corrosion inhibitor is a phosphonic acid derivative.
5 . A deicing composition according to claim 3 wherein the corrosion inhibitor is a phosphate or a nitrate.
6 . A deicing composition for concrete surfaces comprising an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid and an alkali metal nitrate.
7 . The deicing composition according to claim 6 , wherein alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid is selected from the group consisting of potassium, sodium and lithium salts of formic, acetic, propionic, glycolic and lactic acids, or mixtures thereof.
8 . A deicing composition according to claim 6 further comprising a corrosion inhibitor.
9 . The deicing composition according to claim 6 , wherein alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid is potassium or sodium acetate and the alkali metal nitrate is lithium nitrate.
10 . The deicing composition according to claim 6 , wherein the ratio of alkali metal of the alkali metal salt of a nitrate to the alkali metal of the alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid is 0.10 to 0.80.
11 . A deicing composition comprising:
a) a metal halide salt; and b) a lithium salt of a carboxylic acid or a lithium nitrate, wherein the molar ratio of lithium to potassium or lithium to sodium is from 10 percent to 80 percent.
12 . A deicing composition according to claim 11 further comprising a corrosion inhibitor.
13 . A deicing composition according to claim 12 wherein the corrosion inhibitor is a phosphonic acid derivative.
14 . A deicing composition according to claim 11 , wherein the metal of the metal halide salt is selected from the group consisting of potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium.
15 . A deicing composition according to claim 12 , wherein the corrosion inhibitor is a phosphate or a nitrate.
16 . A method of deicing concrete surfaces comprising applying a deicing composition comprising a potassium or sodium salt of a carboxylic acid and a lithium salt of a carboxylic acid to a concrete surface.
17 . A method of deicing concrete surfaces comprising applying a deicing composition comprising a metal halide salt and a lithium salt of a carboxylic acid or a lithium nitrate, wherein the molar ratio of lithium to potassium or lithium to sodium is from 10 percent to 80 percent.
18 . In a deicing composition that can cause ASR damage to the concrete being deiced, the improvement comprising adding a lithium salt of a carboxylic acid or a lithium nitrate at a percent solids level such that the eutectic point of the deicing composition is not lowered to avoid adversely affecting deicing characteristics of the deicing composition.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
