Intracorporeal medicaments for high energy phototherapeutic treatment of disease
Abstract
New intracorporeal radiodense medicaments and certain medical uses and methods for use of such high energy phototherapeutic medicaments for treatment of human or animal tissue are described, wherein a primary active component of such medicaments is a halogenated xanthene or halogenated xanthene derivative. The halogenated xanthenes constitute a family of potent radiosensitizers that become photoactivated upon irradiation of the treatment site with ionizing radiation. In embodiments of the present invention, such medicaments are used for treatment of a variety of conditions affecting the skin and related organs, the mouth and digestive tract and related organs, the urinary and reproductive tracts and related organs, the respiratory tract and related organs, the circulatory system and related organs, the head and neck, the endocrine and lymphoreticular systems and related organs, various other tissues, such as connective tissues and various tissue surfaces exposed during surgery, as well as various tissues exhibiting microbial or parasitic infection In another embodiment, such medicaments are produced in various formulations including liquid, semisolid, solid or aerosol delivery vehicles.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 50 . (canceled)
51 . Use of a halogenated xanthene as the active ingredient in the preparation of an intracorporeal radiosensitizer medicament for high energy phototherapeutic treatment of cancerous, pre-cancerous, and infectious diseases of human and animal tissue using applied ionizing radiation having an energy of greater than approximately 1 keV,
wherein said halogenated xanthene is dissolved in said pharmaceutical delivery vehicle to form said medicament, wherein said halogenated xanthene consists of disodium Diiodofluorescein, disodium Eosin B, disodium Eosin Y, disodium Erythrosin B, disodium Phloxine B, or disodium Rose Bengal, and wherein said halogenated xanthene does not contain a radioisotope.
52 . A method comprising:
providing a halogenated xanthene selected from the group consisting of Erythrosin B, Phloxine B, Rose Bengal and a disodium salt of a halogenated xanthene in a dosage form suitable for use as a medicament for intravenous, intramuscular, intratumoral or transcutaneous delivery; and providing instructions to use said medicament for high energy phototherapeutic treatment of cancerous, pre-cancerous and infectious diseases of human and animal tissue, using applied ionizing radiation having an energy of greater than approximately 1 keV.
53 . A method of treating cancerous, pre-cancerous and infectious diseases of human and animal tissue comprising:
providing a dosage unit of a sterile intracorporeal radiosensitizer medicament consisting of an aqueous solution of a sodium, potassium or lithium salt of a halogenated xanthene, wherein said halogenated xanthene is a compound selected from the group consisting of Erythrosin B, Phloxine B, and Rose Bengal; and providing instructions for use of said medicament for high energy phototherapeutic treatment of said diseased human tissue using applied ionizing radiation having an energy of greater than approximately 1 keV.
54 . A method of treating cancerous, pre-cancerous and infectious diseases of human and animal tissue comprising:
providing a dosage unit of an intracorporeal radiosensitizer medicament consisting of a capsule, a suppository, a syrup, or a micro-droplet spray containing a halogenated xanthene, wherein said halogenated xanthene is a compound selected from the group consisting of Erythrosin B, Phloxine B, Rose Bengal and a disodium salt of a halogenated xanthene; and providing instructions for use of said medicament for high energy phototherapeutic treatment of said diseased human tissue using applied ionizing radiation having an energy of greater than approximately 1 keV.Cited by (0)
