Canola extracts containing high levels of phenolic acids

Abstract

Disclosed in certain embodiments is a canola extract comprising greater than 30% sinapic acid, pharmaceutical compositions thereof, and methods thereof.

1 . A canola extract comprising greater than 30% sinapic acid.  
   
   
       2 . The canola extract of  claim 1 , comprising at least 40% sinapic acid.  
   
   
       3 . The canola extract of  claim 1 , comprising at least 50% sinapic acid.  
   
   
       4 . The canola extract of  claim 1 , comprising from about 40% to about 60% sinapic acid.  
   
   
       5 . The canola extract of  claim 4 , comprising from about 45% to about 55% sinapic acid.  
   
   
       6 . A canola extract having an IC 50  concentration for the inhibition of SK-MEL5 cell proliferation of from about 100 μg/mL to about 200 μg/mL.

       11 . A topical pharmaceutical formulation comprising the a canola extract of  claim 1  and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier suitable for topical administration.

       13 . The topical pharmaceutical formulation of  claim 11 , wherein the canola extract comprises greater than 50% sinapic acid.  
   
   
       14 . The topical pharmaceutical formulation of  claim 11 , wherein the canola extract comprises from about 40% to about 60% sinapic acid.  
   
   
       15 . The topical pharmaceutical formulation of  claim 11 , wherein the comprising a canola extract comprises from about 45% to about 55% sinapic acid.

 (a) homogenizing the canola meal; and    (b) evaporating the homogenized mixture to dryness to obtain an extraction.
