Abstract
A composition and method for protecting pipeline joints is disclosed. A mold covers the exposed pipeline joint. A reaction composition including a polyol, an isocyanate, and an ester, preferably 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-pentanediol diisobutyrate, is added to the mold and allowed to react to form a polymer.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 12 . (canceled)
. A method for filling a gap at the junction between two lengths of coated pipe, the method comprising:
enclosing the gap with a mold having an opening; introducing a composition comprising polyol, isocyanate, and an ester diluent into the mold; and allowing the composition to react and form a polymer.
. (canceled)
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the isocyanate comprises polymeric MDI.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the ester comprises a diester.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the insoluable ester comprises 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-pentanediol diisobutyrate.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the composition further comprises water.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the composition further comprises hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the composition further comprises hydrocarbon blowing agent.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the composition further comprises a silicone based surfactant.
. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the step of removing the mold after formation of the polymer.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the polymer comprises a polyurethane foam having an open cell content of about eighty percent or higher.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the polymer comprises a polyurethane foam having an open cell content of about ninety percent or higher.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the polymer comprises a polyurethane foam having a density of between about 2 and about 12 pounds per cubic foot.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the polymer comprises an elastomeric polymer.
. The method of claim 3 , wherein the isocyanate comprises an isocyanate prepolymer.
. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the step of adding filler material to the mold, after the enclosing step and before the step of introducing the reaction composition.
. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the step of adding a permeable membrane into the mold before the step of introducing the reaction composition.
. (canceled)
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the polyol comprises an amine based polyether polyol.
. The method of claim 30 , wherein the ester diluent comprises 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-pentanediol diisobutyrate.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the polyol comprises an amine based polyether polyol.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
