Method for Transmission of Information to the User

Abstract

Method for transmission of information to the user, in which a search terminal ( 1 ) is used for sending an information query by using a browser application program running in the search terminal, which is received and processed. Further in the method, information is searched for, and the retrieved information is transmitted to the search terminal ( 1 ). The information is received and displayed to the user by the search terminal ( 1 ). A system for transmitting information to a user comprises a search terminal ( 1 ) for sending an information query, means ( 3, 4, 4′, 4″ ) for receiving and processing of the information query, means ( 3, 4, 4′, 4″ ) for retrieving information, means ( 2 ) for transmitting the information to the search terminal ( 1 ), and means ( 1 ) for receiving the information and presenting it to the user on the search terminal ( 1 ), The information retrieval is arranged to be conducted at least partly on the basis of the location and/or travel route of the user.

1 . Method for searching a remote server for transmission of information to a user, said method comprising: 
 receiving an information query at a connection server from a search terminal, processing the information query by the connection server to find a remote server containing information defined by the information query,    wherein the information query contains information of at least one of the location and travel route of the user,    conducting the remote server search at least partly on the basis of at least one of the location and travel route of the user, and    routing at a server the information query sent by the search terminal to the server suitable for the information search at least partly on the basis of at least one of the location and travel route of the user.    
   
   
       2 . Method according to  claim 1 , further comprising displaying the received information to the user.  
   
   
       3 . Method according to  claim 1 , further comprising using at least two data transmission channels to transmit the information query from the search terminal.  
   
   
       4 . Method according to  claim 1 , further comprising including information to be transmitted to the search terminal in a reply message as a response to the information query, and using at least two data transmission channels to transmit the reply message to the search terminal.  
   
   
       5 . Method according to  claim 4 , further comprising examining by the connection server the amount of information which will be needed to transmit the reply message to the search terminal, wherein the method further comprises selecting by the connection server the most appropriate data transmission method of said at least two data transmission channels to transmit the reply message to the search terminal.  
   
   
       6 . Method according to  claim 1 , further comprising transmitting at least part of the information between the search terminal and the connection server for receiving and processing of the information query by using short messages.  
   
   
       7 . Method according to  claim 6 , further comprising displaying at least part of the received information to the user as short messages.  
   
   
       8 . Method according to  claim 1 , further comprising forming a data call between the search terminal and the connection server for receiving and processing of the information query, and transmitting at least part of the information transferred by using said data call.  
   
   
       9 . Method according to  claim 1 , further comprising storing user-specific information in at least one user profile data base and utilizing information in the user profile data base as an additional search criterion in the information search.  
   
   
       10 . Method according to  claim 9 , further comprising storing user-specific information in the search terminal.  
   
   
       11 . Method according to  claim 1 , further comprising storing service-specific information in at least one service data base, and retrieving information from service data bases.  
   
   
       12 . A connection server comprising: 
 means for receiving an information query sent by a search terminal,    means for selecting a remote server containing information defined by the information query,    means for transmitting the information query to the remote server,    means for receiving information retrieved by the selected remote server, and    means for transmitting the retrieved information to the search terminal, wherein the information query contains information of at least one of the location and travel route of a user, and the connection server is adapted to select the remote server at least partly on the basis of at least one of the location and travel route of the user.    
   
   
       13 . A connection server according to  claim 12 , further comprising one transmission channel for transmitting information from the search terminal.  
   
   
       14 . A connection server according to  claim 12 , further comprising at least two data transmission channels for transmitting information to the search terminal.  
   
   
       15 . A connection server according to  claim 12 , further comprising a means for transmitting short messages between the search terminal and the means for receiving the information query, wherein the means for transmitting the information to the search terminal is adapted to transmit at least part of the information by using short messages.

A connection server according to  claim 12 , further comprising a means for forming a data call between the search terminal and the means for receiving the information query, wherein the means for transmitting the information to the search terminal is adapted to transmit at least part of the information by using said data call.  
   
   
       17 . A connection server according to  claim 12 , further comprising a wireless communication means for transmitting information at least partly in a wireless manner.
