Assembly with detachably attachable devices

Abstract

Each of one or more devices to be detachably attached to a mechanical substructure includes rails on opposed sides with insertion/extraction mechanisms. Each of a plurality of pairs of guides mounted on the substructure slidably receives and retains a respective set of rails upon attachment of the devices. The insertion/extraction mechanism includes one or more pivotable handles associated with each device for retaining the device with the substructure. A spring extending from a rail makes electrical contact with electrostatic discharge ground pads on the substructure to discharge existing static charge from the device prior to electrical engagement between an electrical connector on the device and an electrical connector on the substructure. An apertured plate of the substructure includes a plurality of apertures through which the devices are inserted/extracted. A face plate may be hingedly attached to and removable from the apertured plate to cover all of the apertures therein that accommodate insertion/extraction of the devices.

1 . An assembly having one or more devices detachably attached to a mechanical substructure, said assembly comprising in combination: 
 a) a pair of rails disposed on and coupled adjacent opposed sides of each of the devices;    b) one or more pairs of spaced apart guides mounted upon the substructure for slidably engaging and mating with a corresponding pair of said pair of rails upon attachment of the respective device to the substructure;    c) an apertured plate extending from the substructure, said apertured plate including at least one aperture for accommodating insertion and withdrawal of a corresponding one of said devices; and    d) a face plate for selectively covering all of said at least one aperture.    
   
   
       2 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 1  including hinges for attaching said face plate to said apertured plate, said hinges comprising: 
 a) a plurality of tabs extending from said apertured plate;    b) a plurality of holes disposed in said face plate for removably receiving respective ones of said tabs to hingedly attach said face plate to said apertured plate; and    at least one fastener for securing said face plate to said apertured plate.    
   
   
       3 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 2  wherein each of said tabs is curved.  
   
   
       4 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 2  wherein each of said fasteners is spring loaded and is retained with said face plate.  
   
   
       5 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 1  including at least a pivotable handle secured to a rail of said pair of rails of the device, each of said handles being pivotable from a first position in engagement with the superstructure to a second position out of engagement with the superstructure and return.  
   
   
       6 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 5  including hinges for attaching said face plate to said apertured plate, said hinges comprising: 
 a) a plurality of tabs extending from said apertured plate;    b) a plurality of holes disposed in said face plate for removably receiving respective ones of said tabs to hingedly attach said face plate to said apertured plate; and    at least one fastener for securing said face plate to said apertured plate.    
   
   
       7 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 6  wherein each of said tabs is curved.  
   
   
       8 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 5  including one of said privotable handles being secured to each rail of said pair of rails attendant each of the devices.  
   
   
       9 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 8  including hinges for attaching said face plate to said apertured plate, said hinges comprising: 
 a) a plurality of tabs extending from said apertured plate;    b) a plurality of holes disposed in said face plate for removably receiving respective ones of said tabs to hingedly attach said face plate to said apertured plate; and    at least one fastener for securing said face plate to said apertured plate.    
   
   
       10 . An assembly as set forth in  claim 9  wherein each of said tabs is curved.
