Magnetic shelf unit for a locker

Abstract

A shelf unit for a metallic locker including at least one set of legs, and a first shelf lying horizontally in the metallic locker on top of the set of legs. Each leg set includes at least three legs having a foot at their bottom and a head at their top, at least one of the legs being magnetic for attaching to the side wall of the metallic locker. A kit consisting of the components of the shelf unit is also provided.

1 . A shelf unit for a metallic locker, comprising: 
 at least one set of legs, each leg set including at least three legs having a foot at their bottom and a head at their top, said at least three legs being magnetic for attaching to the side wall of the metallic locker;    a first shelf lying horizontally in the metallic locker on top of said set of legs.    
   
   
       2 . The shelf unit of  claim 1 , further comprising a second set of legs and a second shelf, wherein at least one of said legs of said second leg set is magnetic for attaching to the side wall of the metallic locker, said second leg set being stackable above said first shelf.  
   
   
       3 . The shelf unit of  claim 1 , further comprising recesses on the first shelf underside, said leg heads being received in said recesses.  
   
   
       4 . The shelf unit of  claim 3 , wherein 
 said legs include a column portion between their feet and head;    said leg heads comprise laterally extending flanges at the upper end of said legs; and    said recesses are open at the perimeter of said first shelf whereby said shelf may be supported at positions laterally spaced from said column portion.    
   
   
       5 . A kit for making a shelf unit in a metallic locker, comprising: 
 at least one set of legs, each leg set including at least three legs having a column portion between a foot and a head, said at least three legs being magnetic along said column portion;    a first shelf having an underside adapted to be supported on the heads of said legs when said column portions are substantially vertical.    
   
   
       6 . The kit of  claim 5 , further comprising a second set of legs and a second shelf, wherein at least one of said legs of said second leg set is magnetic along its column portion.  
   
   
       7 . The kit of  claim 6 , wherein said feet of said second leg set include a longitudinally extending flange extending from the bottom of a laterally extending flange, and said first shelf includes at least three recesses adjacent a peripheral lip on the upper side of said first shelf.  
   
   
       8 . The kit of  claim 5 , wherein each leg set includes four legs.  
   
   
       9 . The kit of  claim 5 , wherein each leg of said leg set is magnetic along its column portion.  
   
   
       10 . The kit of  claim 5 , wherein said legs comprise a first material, and further include magnets secured at spaced positions along the length of said legs.  
   
   
       11 . The kit of  claim 10 , wherein said first material is plastic.  
   
   
       12 . The kit of  claim 5 , further comprising recesses on the first shelf underside sized to receive said leg heads.  
   
   
       13 . The kit of  claim 12 , wherein 
 said leg heads comprise laterally extending flanges at the upper end of said legs; and    said underside recesses are open at the perimeter of said first shelf.    
   
   
       14 . A shelf unit for a metallic locker, comprising: 
 at least one set of legs, each leg set including at least three legs having a foot at their bottom and a head at their top, said at least three legs being magnetic for attaching to the side wall of the metallic locker;    a first shelf lying horizontally in the metallic locker on the head of said set of legs, with said first shelf movable toward and away from the locker side wall relative to the heads of said at least three legs.    
   
   
       15 . The shelf unit of  claim 14 , said first shelf including flat horizontal surfaces resting on said heads of said at least three legs, said horizontal surfaces being open on the side facing the locker side wall.  
   
   
       16 . The shelf unit of  claim 14 , wherein each leg of said set of legs is magnetic for attaching to one of the side walls of the metallic locker, and said first shelf is movable toward and away from each locker side wall relative to the leg heads on which the first shelf lies.  
   
   
       17 . The shelf unit of  claim 16 , said first shelf being generally rectangular and including flat horizontal surfaces adjacent each corner which lie on the heads of the legs of the leg set, said horizontal surfaces being open on the side facing the locker side wall.  
   
   
       18 . The shelf unit of  claim 16 , said first shelf being generally rectangular and including flat horizontal surfaces adjacent each corner which lie on the heads of the legs of the leg set, said horizontal surfaces being open at the perimeter of the shelf at each corner.  
   
   
       19 . The shelf unit of  claim 18 , wherein each leg set includes four legs, and said legs are under the corners of said first shelf.  
   
   
       20 . The shelf unit of  claim 19 , further comprising recesses on the first shelf underside, wherein 
 said leg heads are received in said recesses;    said legs include a column portion between their feet and head, said column portions being magnetic for attachment to locker side walls;    said leg heads comprise flanges at the upper ends of said legs extending laterally away from said adjacent locker side walls to which said column portions are magnetically attached; and    said recesses are open at the perimeter of said first shelf whereby said shelf may be supported at positions laterally spaced from said column portion.
