Abstract

A microbrowser such as web-enabled wireless telephones and personal digital assistants allows a user to configure types of objects to be blocked from download including object memory consumption, display area, download time, and restrictions on animated images and executable scripts. Microbrowser state conditions such as battery level and network connection mode are considered when providing said limitations such that more restrictions may be placed during low battery periods to maximize battery life. For example, during low battery conditions or analog connection mode, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser not to download advertisements, run scripts or animated objects in order to maximize remaining battery life. In another example, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser to block the download of objects containing audio, or which will occupy more than a certain percentage of the available display area.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A dynamic serving governor for a server comprising:
an advertisement configuration data set receiver operated by a server and configured to receive from a microbrowser an advertisement configuration data set accompanying a page request, said data set containing at least one limitation for receipt of web objects and at least one microbrowser state condition; a web object selector configured to select web objects of said requested page which meet said advertisement configuration data set limitations and said microbrowser state condition; and a web objects transmitter configured to transmit said selected web objects from said server to said microbrowser, thereby causing said selected web objects to be presented to a user of said microbrowser.

2 . The dynamic serving governor as set forth in claim 1 wherein said advertisement configuration data set receiver is configured to request said
advertisement configuration data set from a microbrowser.

3 . The dynamic serving governor as set forth in claim 1 wherein said web object selector is configured to select web objects which match a battery condition indication.

4 . The dynamic serving governor as set forth in claim 1 wherein said web object selector is configured to select web objects which match network connection mode indication.

5 . The dynamic serving governor as set forth in claim 1 wherein said web object selector is configured to select web objects which match a maximum transmission time indication.

6 . The dynamic serving governor as set forth in claim 1 wherein said web object selector is configured to select web objects which match a maximum number of display colors indicator.

7 . The dynamic serving governor as set forth in claim 1 wherein said web object selector is configured to select web objects which match a maximum display area indicator.

8 . The dynamic serving governor as set forth in claim 1 wherein said web object selector is configured to select web objects which match at least one web object characteristic selected from the group of a maximum memory consumption indicator, a restriction on executable code indicator, and a restriction on animated images indicator.

9 . A method for dynamically governing a server comprising:
operating an advertisement configuration data set receiver by a server, said receiver receiving from a microbrowser an advertisement configuration data set accompanying a page request, said data set containing at least one limitation for receipt of web objects and at least one microbrowser state condition; selecting web objects of said requested page which meet said advertisement configuration data set limitations and said microbrowser state condition; and transmitting said selected web objects from said server to said microbrowser, thereby causing said selected web objects to be presented to a user of said microbrowser.

10 . The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein said advertisement configuration data set receiver is further configured to request said advertisement configuration data set from a microbrowser.

11 . The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein said step of selecting web objects further comprises selecting web objects which match a battery condition indication.

12 . The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein said step of selecting web objects further comprises selecting web objects which match network connection mode indication.

13 . The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein said step of selecting web objects further comprises selecting web objects which match a maximum transmission time indication.

14 . The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein said step of selecting web objects further comprises selecting web objects which match a maximum number of display colors indicator.

15 . The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein said step of selecting web objects further comprises selecting web objects which match a maximum display area indicator.

16 . The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein said step of selecting web objects further comprises selecting web objects which match at least one web object characteristic selected from the group of a maximum memory consumption indicator, a restriction on executable code indicator, and a restriction on animated images indicator.

17 . An article of manufacture for dynamically governing a server comprising:
a computer readable medium suitable for encoding software programs; and one or more software programs encoded by said medium and configured to cause a processor to perform the steps of:
 (a) operating an advertisement configuration data set receiver by a server, said receiver receiving from a microbrowser an advertisement configuration data set accompanying a page request, said data set containing at least one limitation for receipt of web objects and at least one microbrowser state condition;
 (b) selecting web objects of said requested page which meet said advertisement configuration data set limitations and said microbrowser state condition; and
 (c) transmitting said selected web objects from said server to said microbrowser, thereby causing said selected web objects to be presented to a user of said microbrowser.

18 . The article as set forth in claim 17 wherein said advertisement configuration data set receiver is further configured to request said advertisement configuration data set from a microbrowser.

19 . The article as set forth in claim 17 wherein said program for selecting web objects further comprises program for selecting web objects which match a battery condition indication.

         20 .
