Abstract

An infusion device with a disposable administration set which is inexpensive to manufacture. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention the disposable administration set has a plurality of elongated cam followers connected to a plate assembly, wherein the cam followers are displaced in a predetermined sequence and forced against a delivery tube by cam means driven by rotary drive means. The disposable administration set is injection molded as a single integral piece. The disposable administration set includes adjustment spacers disposed between the plate assembly and the cam followers which adjust the distance between them to keep the device accurate. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention the cam means are configured to provide fluid delivery at a consistent and uniform rate.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A medical device for delivering a fluid, comprising:
a disposable administration set including a fluid delivery tube for conveying intravenous fluid through said device, said fluid delivery tube having a pliant segment, said administration set including a bar code label comprising information regarding a pump stroke volume of the administration set; a peristaltic pump mechanism comprising a housing, said housing being a compact, portable case having a receptacle configured to receive said administration set, said pump mechanism including a camshaft configured to engage said intermediate pliant segment to expel a fluid from said fluid delivery tube; a motor configured to drive said camshaft; a bar code reader configured to read said information included in said bar code label upon insertion of said administration set into said housing; a controller configured to receive said information from said bar code reader and to determine an operating speed of said motor in accordance with a predetermined relationship to said pump stroke volume of the administration set.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said barcode reader further comprises information regarding at least one of a diameter of the fluid delivery tube and a wall thickness of the fluid delivery tube.
