Abstract
The invention relates to appetite-suppressing compositions obtained from botanical sources. More specifically, the invention relates to appetite-suppressing compositions comprising an extract product of an Asclepias plant, methods of making an appetite-suppressing composition, and methods of suppressing an appetite.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An appetite-suppressing composition comprising:
an extract product of a plant material of an Asclepias plant and at least one of additive selected from the group consisting of diluents, fillers, salts and binders
2 . The appetite-suppressing composition of claim 1 , wherein the plant material is selected from the group consisting of leaves, stems, flowers, fruits, seeds and roots.
3 . The appetite-suppressing composition of claim 1 , wherein the plant is selected from the group consisting of A. incarnata, A. curassavica, A. syriaca and A. tuberosa.
4 . The appetite-suppressing composition of claim 1 , wherein the extract product comprises compounds in accordance with the following formula (I):
wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 2 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 4 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 5 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 6 is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 18 moiety, or a saccharide moiety; and,
the dotted line represents an optional double bond.
5 . The appetite-suppressing composition of claim 1 , wherein the extract product comprises compounds in accordance with the following formula (II):
wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 4 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 5 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 6 is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 18 moiety, or a saccharide moiety; and,
the dotted line represents an optional double bond.
6 . The appetite-suppressing composition of claim 1 , wherein the extract product comprises compounds in accordance with the following formula (III):
wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 2 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 4 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 6 is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 18 moiety, or a saccharide moiety; and,
the dotted line represents an optional double bond.
7 . A method of making an appetite-suppressing composition, comprising:
providing a plant material of an Asclepias plant; contacting the plant material with a solvent, thereby isolating the appetite-suppressing composition.
8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising macerating the plant material.
9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the plant material is selected from the group consisting of leaves, stems, flowers, fruits, seeds and roots.
10 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the plant is selected from the group consisting of A. incarnata, A. curassavica, A. syriaca and A. tuberosa.
11 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the solvent is selected from the group consisting of water, alcohols, alkanes, halocarbons, ethers, aromatic solvents, ketones, aqueous solvent systems and super critical fluids.
12 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the extract product comprises compounds in accordance with the following formula (I):
wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 2 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 4 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 5 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 6 is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 18 moiety, or a saccharide moiety; and,
the dotted line represents an optional double bond.
13 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the extract product comprises compounds in accordance with the following formula (II):
wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 4 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 5 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 6 is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 18 moiety, or a saccharide moiety; and, the dotted line represents an optional double bond.
14 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the extract product comprises compounds in accordance with the following formula (III):
wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 2 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 4 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 18 moiety;
R 6 is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 18 moiety, or a saccharide moiety; and,
the dotted line represents an optional double bond.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
