Abstract

Amine polymers, particularly aliphatic amine polymers, are useful in the treatment and prevention of bone disease and in methods for promoting bone formation. Sevelemer, polyallylamine crosslinked with epichlorohydrin, which is sold under the tradename Renagel®, is the preferred polymer used in the invention.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
- 33 . (canceled)

. A method for promoting bone formation in a mammal in need thereof, comprising administering to said mammal a therapeutically effective amount of at least one amine polymer comprised of repeat units having a backbone and an amino group, wherein said mammal is not suffering from hyperparathyroidism, hyperphosphatemia or osteitis fibrosa.

. The method of claim 34 wherein said amino group is pendent from the polymer backbone.

. The method of claim 34 wherein said amino group are part of the polymer backbone.

. The method of claim 34 wherein said amine polymer is an aromatic amine polymer.

. The method of claim 35 wherein said amine polymer is an aromatic amine polymer.

. The method of claim 36 wherein said amine polymer is an aromatic amine polymer.

. The method of claim 34 wherein said amine polymer is aliphatic.

. The method of claim 35 wherein said amine polymer is aliphatic.

. The method of claim 36 wherein said amine polymer is aliphatic.

. A method treating osteoporosis in a mammal in need thereof, comprising administering to said mammal a therapeutically effective amount of at least one amine polymer comprised of repeat units having a backbone and an amino group, wherein said mammal is not suffering from hyperparathyroidism, hyperphosphatemia or osteitis fibrosa.

. The method of claim 43 wherein said amino group is pendent from the polymer backbone.

. The method of claim 43 wherein said amino group are part of the polymer backbone.

. The method of claim 43 wherein said amine polymer is an aromatic amine polymer.

. The method of claim 44 wherein said amine polymer is an aromatic amine polymer.

. The method of claim 45 wherein said amine polymer is an aromatic amine polymer.

. The method of claim 43 wherein said amine polymer is aliphatic.

. The method of claim 44 wherein said amine polymer is aliphatic.

. The method of claim 45 wherein said amine polymer is aliphatic.
