Abstract
A system and method for minimizing the effects of non-uniform dielectric properties includes forming traces on printed circuit boards (PCB) where the fibers within the printed circuit boards are non-rectangular with respect to the rectangular edges of the circuit board. The orientation of the traces with respect to the fibers substantially minimizes the effects of non-uniform dielectric properties of the PCB.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 20 . (canceled)
21 . An information handling system comprising:
a printed circuit board (PCB) having a laminate structure including a first plurality of generally electrically non-conductive fibers extending in a first direction and a second plurality of generally electrically non-conductive fibers extending in a second direction, the second direction offset from the first direction; a transmitter module associated with the PCB; a receiver module associated with the PCB; and an electrically conductive trace formed on the PCB for communicating electrical signals between the transmitter module and the receiver module, at least a portion of the electrically conductive trace extending along a third direction offset from both the first direction and the second direction.
22 . An information handling system according to claim 21 , wherein:
the PCB is formed from an epoxy resin laminate; and the first and second generally electrically non-conductive fibers are disposed within the epoxy resin.
23 . An information handling system according to claim 21 , wherein the second direction is generally perpendicular to the first direction.
24 . An information handling system according to claim 21 , wherein the third direction is offset approximately forty-five degrees from the first direction.
25 . An information handling system according to claim 21 , wherein the third direction is generally parallel with an edge of the PCB.
26 . An information handling system according to claim 21 , wherein the third direction is offset at least ten degrees from the first direction.
27 . An information handling system according to claim 21 , wherein the third direction is offset at least thirty degrees from the first direction.
28 . An information handling system according to claim 21 , wherein the electrically conductive trace is a part of a differential pair of electrically conductive traces for communicating electrical signals between the transmitter module and the receiver module.
29 . An information handling system according to claim 28 , wherein the angle of the third direction relative to the first direction is selected to maximize uniformity of dielectric properties between the pair of electrically conductive traces.
30 . A printed circuit board (PCB) comprising:
a laminate structure including a first plurality of generally electrically non-conductive fibers extending in a first direction and a second plurality of generally electrically non-conductive fibers extending in a second direction, the second direction offset from the first direction; and a pair of electrically conductive traces formed on the PCB for communicating electrical signals between a transmitter and a receiver, at least a portion of each electrically conductive trace extending along a third direction offset from both the first direction and the second direction.
31 . A printed circuit board according to claim 30 , wherein:
the laminate structure comprises an epoxy resin laminate; and the first and second generally electrically non-conductive fibers are disposed within the epoxy resin.
32 . A printed circuit board according to claim 30 , wherein the second direction is generally perpendicular to the first direction.
33 . A printed circuit board according to claim 30 , wherein the third direction is offset approximately forty-five degrees from the first direction.
34 . A printed circuit board according to claim 30 , wherein the third direction is generally parallel with an edge of the PCB.
35 . A printed circuit board according to claim 30 , wherein the third direction is offset at least ten degrees from the first direction.
36 . A printed circuit board according to claim 30 , wherein the third direction is offset at least thirty degrees from the first direction.
37 . A printed circuit board according to claim 30 , wherein the angle of the third direction relative to the first direction is selected to maximize uniformity of dielectric properties between the pair of electrically conductive traces.
38 . A printed circuit board (PCB) comprising:
a laminate structure including a first plurality of generally electrically non-conductive fibers extending in a first direction and a second plurality of generally electrically non-conductive fibers extending in a second direction, the second direction offset from the first direction; and an electrically conductive trace formed on the PCB for communicating electrical signals, at least a portion of the electrically conductive trace extending along a third direction offset from both the first direction and the second direction.
39 . A printed circuit board according to claim 38 , further comprising:
a transmitter module associated with the PCB; and a receiver module associated with the PCB; and wherein the electrically conductive trace communicates electrical signals between the transmitter module and the receiver module.
40 . A printed circuit board according to claim 38 , wherein:
the second direction is generally perpendicular to the first direction; and the third direction is offset at least thirty degrees from the first direction.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
