Abstract

A method of activating the rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) promoter in vivo is disclosed. The RTBV promoter is activated by exposure to at least one protein selected from the group consisting of Rf2 a and Rf2 b.

1 . A method of activating the rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) promoter in vivo comprising exposing said RTBV promoter to Rf2b.  
     
     
         2 . A method of achieving constitutive expression of a gene of interest that is under the control of a RTBV promoter in plant cells, comprising: 
 transforming said cells or tissues with a plant transformation vector conferring the constitutive expression of the coding sequence for Rf2b, and    growing the transformed cells or tissues.
