Abstract

A method for performing color conversion between color profiles includes converting source device color profile values to destination device color profile values using one or more plug-in software modules to define intermediate profile connecting space (PCS) values used for the color conversion. A system for performing color conversion between source device color profile values and destination color profile values includes a color mapping system including a source device profile interpreter. A destination device profile interpreter, and a controller are coupled to the source and destination device profile interpreters, and one or more plug-in software modules executable by the controller to define intermediate profile connecting space (PCS) values used for the color conversion.

1 . A method for performing color conversion between color profiles comprising: 
 converting source device color profile values to destination device color profile values using one or more plug-in software modules to define intermediate profile connecting space (PCS) values used for the color conversion.    
   
   
       2 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the PCS values are used for converting color coordinates in the source device color space to the destination device color space.  
   
   
       3 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the one or more plug-in software modules obviate the need to use new versions of color profiles associated with the source or destination devices.  
   
   
       4 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the one or more plug-in software modules configure one or more device profile interpreters used in the color conversion.  
   
   
       5 . A method as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the PCS values comprise a CIELAB color space.  
   
   
       6 . A method for performing color conversion between profiles comprising: 
 converting source device color profile values to destination color profile device values using one or more plug-in software modules to define gamut mapping techniques used for the conversion.    
   
   
       7 . A method as defined in  claim 6 , wherein the one or more plug-in software modules configure device profile interpreters used in the color conversion.  
   
   
       8 . A method as defined in  claim 6 , wherein the PCS comprises a CIELAB color space.  
   
   
       9 . A system for performing color conversion between source device color profile values and destination color profile values, the system comprising: 
 a color mapping system including a source device profile interpreter and a destination device profile interpreter;    a controller coupled to the source and destination device profile interpreters; and    one or more plug-in software modules executable by the controller to define intermediate profile connecting space (PCS) values used for the color conversion.    
   
   
       10 . A system as defined in  9 , wherein the one or more plug-in software modules configure the source and destination profile interpreters.  
   
   
       11 . A system as defined in  claim 9 , wherein the PCS values are used for converting color coordinates in the source device color space to the destination device color space.  
   
   
       12 . A system as defined in  claim 9 , wherein the wherein the PCS values comprise a CIELAB color space.
