Method for mapping colors between imaging systems and method therefor
Abstract
A method of performing color conversion between profiles includes comparing two sets of measured and reference data for at least one device corresponding to one of the profiles used in the color conversion, the data from the two sets of measured and reference data correspond to the same device values and are indicative of differences in behavior between a current state of the device and a reference state of the device in which at least one member of the set includes more than one non-zero value of colorants. And performing one-dimensional corrections to one of the profiles in order to account for the differences between the measured and reference data sets prior to performing color conversion.

2 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein performing one-dimensional corrections includes applying a set of one-dimensional tables.
3 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein performing one-dimensional corrections includes applying corrections to an analytical model.
4 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein performing one-dimensional corrections includes applying corrections to a multidimensional look-up table.
5 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the performing one-dimensional corrections is performed automatically.
6 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the performing one-dimensional corrections is performed when a device profile is out of date.
7 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the performing one-dimensional corrections is performed based on a schedule.
8 . A device profile interpreter, comprising:
a memory having stored a device profile and raw spectral data; a device profile processor coupled to the memory and including an input for receiving device coordinates; and the device profile processor updates the device profile by performing error reduction using one-dimensional correction.
9 . A device profile interpreter as defined in claim 8 , wherein the error reduction performed by the device profile processor includes performing color conversion between profiles, including:
comparing two sets of measured and reference data for at least one device corresponding to one of the profiles used in the color conversion, the data from the two sets of measured and reference data correspond to the same device values and are indicative of differences in behavior between a current state of the device and a reference state of the device in which at least one member of the set includes more than one non-zero value of colorants; and performing one-dimensional corrections to one of the profiles in order to account for the differences between the measured and reference data sets prior to performing color conversion.
10 . A device profile interpreter as defined in claim 9 , wherein performing one-dimensional corrections includes applying a set of one-dimensional tables.
11 . A device profile interpreter as defined in claim 9 , wherein performing one-dimensional corrections includes applying corrections to an analytical model.
12 . A device profile interpreter as defined in claim 9 , wherein performing one-dimensional corrections includes applying corrections to a multidimensional look-up table.

15 . A device profile interpreter as defined in claim 9 , wherein performing one-dimensional corrections is performed based on a schedule.
16 . A method for updating a device profile that is used to convert device color coordinates to profile connecting space (PCS) coordinates, comprising:
performing error reduction on each channel of a look-up table; constructing an updated device profile using the error reduced look-up table.
17 . A method as defined in claim 16 , wherein the error reduction includes applying a set of one-dimensional tables.
18 . A method as defined in claim 16 , wherein the error reduction is applied directly to an analytical model.
