Call management reports

Abstract

A network node in a communications network collects communication information. The network node collects, when an attempt is made to establish a network connection between a source and a destination, information related to the network connection and either or both of the source and the destination. A report is generated based on the information and at least a portion of the report is forwarded to a user. The report includes information for established network connections and information for unsuccessful attempts to establish network connections.

1 . A network node in a communications network that collects communication information, comprising:
 a collector that collects, when an attempt is made to establish a network connection between a source and a destination, information related to the network connection and at least one of the source and the destination,   wherein a report is generated based on the information, and at least a portion of the report is forwarded to a user, and   wherein the report comprises information for established network connections and information for unsuccessful attempts to establish network connections.   
   
   
       2 . The network node according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the user is associated with the source.   
   
   
       3 . The network node according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the user is associated with the destination.   
   
   
       4 . The network node according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the information is forwarded to a second network node in the communications network.   
   
   
       5 . The network node according to  claim 4 ,
 wherein the second network node generates the report based on the information.   
   
   
       6 . The network node according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the collector collects the information based on a query generated when the attempt is made to establish the network connection.   
   
   
       7 . The network node according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the report is forwarded to the user at periodic intervals.   
   
   
       8 . The network node according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the information comprises at least one of: a source address, a destination address and characteristics of the network connection.   
   
   
       9 . The network node according to  claim 1 , further comprising:
 an interface operable to retrieve additional information about at least one of the source and the destination from a repository.   
   
   
       10 . The network node according to  claim 9 ,
 wherein the additional information is added to the report.   
   
   
       11 . The network node according to  claim 9 ,
 wherein the additional information comprises a geographic location of the source and a geographic location of the destination.   
   
   
       12 . The network node according to  claim 9 ,
 wherein the additional information comprises profile information.   
   
   
       13 . The network node according to  claim 12 ,
 wherein the profile information comprises information received from a third party.   
   
   
       14 . A method for collecting communication information, comprising:
 receiving an indication of an attempt to establish a network connection in a communications network between a source and a destination; and   collecting information related to the network connection and at least one of the source and the destination,   wherein a report is generated based on the information, and at least a portion of the report is forwarded to a user, and   wherein the report comprises information for established network connections and information for unsuccessful attempts to establish network connections.   
   
   
       15 . The method according to  claim 14 ,
 wherein the report comprises a periodic report.   
   
   
       16 . The method according to  claim 15 ,
 wherein the periodic report comprises information related to at least one of the source, the destination and the network connection collected during a specified period of time.   
   
   
       17 . The method according to  claim 14 ,
 wherein a record is created when the attempt is made to establish the network connection between the source and the destination.   
   
   
       18 . The method according to  claim 17 ,
 wherein the record comprises the information related to at least one of the source, the destination and the network connection.   
   
   
       19 . The method according to  claim 18 ,
 wherein the report is generated based on the information contained in the record.   
   
   
       20 . A computer readable medium storing a program, recorded on the computer readable medium, for providing a user with a communications report, comprising:
 a receiving code, recorded on the computer readable medium, executable to receive an indication of an attempt to establish a network connection in a communications network between a source and a destination; and   a collecting code, recorded on the computer readable medium, executable to collect information related to the network connection and at least one of the source and the destination, wherein   a report is generated based on the information, and at least a portion of the report is forwarded to the user, and   wherein the report comprises information for established network connections and information for unsuccessful attempts to establish network connections.
