Assembly containing a specimen retrieval device

Abstract

An assembly that includes a specimen-containing vessel and a cap in sealing engagement. The assembly contains a specimen retrieval device having a handle, an end of which is positioned between a depending inner wall of the cap and a closed side wall of the vessel. The inner wall of the cap is adapted to be penetrated by a plastic pipette tip.

An assembly comprising a specimen-containing vessel in sealing engagement with a cap, the cap having a depending inner wall constructed and arranged to be penetrated by a plastic pipette tip, wherein the assembly contains a specimen retrieval device having a handle, an end of which is positioned between the inner wall of the cap and a closed side wall of the vessel. 
     
     
         2 . The assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the inner wall has a generally conical shape. 
     
     
         3 . The assembly of  claim 1  further comprising a seal affixed to an annular top wall of the cap. 
     
     
         4 . The assembly of  claim 3  further comprising a wick positioned between the inner wall and the seal, the wick being adapted to inhibit the release of aerosols from the assembly. 
     
     
         5 . The assembly of  claim 3 , wherein the seal comprises a metallic foil. 
     
     
         6 . The assembly of  claim 3 , wherein the seal comprises a plastic. 
     
     
         7 . The assembly of  claim 1 , wherein the cap comprises a molded plastic. 
     
     
         8 . The assembly of  claim 7 , wherein the inner wall is a molded plastic comprising a plurality of striations. 
     
     
         9 . The assembly of  claim 1 , wherein a portion of the handle is snapped-off before the specimen-retrieval device is contained within the assembly. 
     
     
         10 . The assembly of  claim 9 , wherein the specimen-retrieval device is a swab.
