Abstract
At least certain embodiments of the present disclosure include an environment with user interface software interacting with a software application. A method for operating through an application programming interface (API) in this environment includes transferring a scroll hysteresis call to determine whether a user input invokes a scroll. The method further includes setting a hysteresis value for determining whether a user input invokes a scroll.

transferring a deceleration scroll call to set a deceleration factor for a drag user input that invokes a scroll.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the deceleration factor slows the scroll to a stop based on the speed of the drag user input.

transferring a deceleration scroll call to set a deceleration factor for a drag user input that invokes a scroll.
6 . The medium of claim 5 , wherein the deceleration factor slows the scroll to a stop based on the speed of the drag user input.
7 . The medium as in claim 5 , wherein transferring the deceleration scroll call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the deceleration scroll call.
8 . The medium as in claim 5 , wherein the data processing system is one of: a data processing device, a portable device, a portable data processing device, a multi touch device, a multi touch portable device, a wireless device, and a cell phone.
9 . In an environment with user interface software interacting with a software application, an apparatus, comprising:
means for transferring a deceleration scroll call to set a deceleration factor for a drag user input that invokes a scroll.

receiving a deceleration scroll call to set a deceleration factor for a drag user input that invokes a scroll.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the deceleration factor slows the scroll to a stop based on the speed of the drag user input.
12 . A machine readable medium storing executable program instructions which when executed cause a data processing system to perform a method comprising:
receiving a deceleration scroll call to set a deceleration factor for a drag user input that invokes a scroll.
13 . The medium of claim 12 , wherein the deceleration factor slows the scroll to a stop based on the speed of the drag user input.

attaching scroll indicators to the content edge based on the scroll indicator call.

attaching scroll indicators to the display edge based on the scroll indicator call.

attaching scroll indicators to the display edge based on the scroll indicator call.

receiving a scroll indicator call to determine whether at least one scroll indicator attaches to an edge of a scroll region or a window edge of the view.

attaching at least one scroll indicator to the edge of the scroll region based on the scroll indicator call.

attaching at least one scroll indicator to the window edge of the view based on the scroll indicator call.
43 . The method as in claim 40 , wherein receiving the scroll indicator call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the scroll indicator call.

means for receiving an inadvertent user input call to determine whether the user input was inadvertent.
68 . A device comprising:
an input panel which is configured to receive user input; a display device integrated with the input panel; a central processing unit coupled to the input panel, the processor being configured to create and modify views, based on at least the user input, wherein the processor is configured to determine which view the user input intends to select based on having positive and negative charges for each contact of the input panel; and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory being configured to store the views.
69 . The device as in claim 68 , wherein the processor is configured to determine whether the user input comprises an unintentional contact with the input panel.
70 . The device as in claim 68 , wherein the device is one of: a data processing device, a portable device, a portable data processing device, a multi touch device, a multi touch portable device, a wireless device, and a cell phone.
71 . A computer read medium containing executable instructions, comprising:
program code configured, when executed, to transfer a deceleration scroll call through an application programming interface to set a deceleration factor for a drag user input that invokes a scroll.
72 . The medium as in claim 71 , wherein transferring the deceleration scroll call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the deceleration scroll call.
73 . A computer read medium containing executable instructions, comprising:
program code configured, when executed, to transfer a scroll hysteresis call through an application programming interface to determine whether the user input invokes a scroll.
74 . The medium as in claim 73 , wherein transferring the scroll hysteresis call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the scroll hysteresis call.
75 . A computer read medium containing executable instructions, comprising:
program code configured, when executed, to transfer a scroll indicator call through an application programming interface to determine whether at least one scroll indicator attaches to a content edge or a display edge of a display region.
76 . The medium as in claim 75 , wherein transferring the scroll indicator call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the scroll indicator call.
77 . A platform for performing scrolling operations, comprising:
a processing unit coupled to an input panel; a memory coupled to the processor; and one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the processing unit, the programs including:
instructions for transferring a scroll hysteresis call through an application programming interface to determine whether the user input invokes a scroll.
78 . The platform of claim 77 , wherein the one or more programs further comprise instructions for transferring a deceleration scroll call through an application programming interface to set a deceleration factor for the user input based on the user input invoking a scroll.
79 . The platform of claim 77 , wherein the one or more programs further comprise instructions for transferring a scroll indicator call through an application programming interface to determine whether at least one scroll indicator attaches to a content edge or a display edge of a display region.
80 . The platform as in claim 77 , wherein transferring the scroll hysteresis call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the scroll hysteresis call.
81 . The platform as in claim 78 , wherein transferring the deceleration scroll call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the deceleration scroll call.
82 . The platform as in claim 79 , wherein transferring the scroll indicator call is either one of issuing, initiating, invoking or receiving the scroll indicator call.
83 . A framework for performing scrolling operations, comprising:
a directory for storing one or more programs and associated resources, wherein the programs contain instructions that when executed provide an application programming interface to specify a scroll hysteresis operation to determine whether the user input invokes a scroll.
84 . The framework of claim 83 , wherein the one or more programs further comprise instructions that when executed provide an application programming interface to specify a deceleration scroll operation to set a deceleration factor for the user input based on the user input invoking a scroll.

The framework of claim 83 , wherein the one or more programs further comprise instructions that when executed provide an application programming interface to specify a scroll indicator operation to determine whether at least one scroll indicator attaches to a content edge or a display edge of a display region.Cited by (0)
