Abstract
A method for scheduling a workload comprising a plurality of transactions relating to a database management system is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of determining a log space amount required by each transaction in the workload, estimating the total log space required for executing the workload based on the log space amounts required by each transaction, and scheduling execution of the workload based on the estimated total log space.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for scheduling a workload comprising a plurality of transactions relating to a database management system, said method comprising the steps of:
determining a log space amount required by each transaction in said workload; estimating the total log space required for executing said workload based on the log space amounts required by each transaction; and scheduling execution of said workload based on said estimated total log space.
2 . The method of claim 1 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said transactions comprise one or more queries on said database management system.
3 . The method of claim 1 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein the log space amounts required by said transactions are determined based on a learned model.
4 . The method of claim 1 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said step of scheduling execution of said workload comprises scheduling execution of each transaction in said workload.
5 . The method of claim 1 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said step of scheduling execution of said workload comprises determining a time to execute each of said transactions.
6 . The method of claim 1 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, comprising the further step of determining an available amount of log space.
7 . The method of claim 6 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein execution of said transactions is scheduled such that the estimated total log space required for executing said workload is less than said amount of available log space.
8 . A system for scheduling a workload comprising a plurality of transactions relating to a database management system, said system comprising a memory unit for storing data and instructions to be performed by a processing unit and a processing unit coupled to said memory unit, said processing unit configured to:
determine a log space amount required by each transaction in said workload; estimate the total log space required for executing said workload based on the log space amounts required by each transaction; and schedule execution of said workload based on said estimated total log space.
9 . The system of claim 8 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said transactions comprise one or more queries on said database management system.
10 . The system of claim 8 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein processing unit is further programmed to determine the log space amounts required by said transactions based on a learned model stored in said memory unit.
11 . The system of claim 8 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said processing unit is programmed to schedule execution of each transaction in said workload.
12 . The system of claim 8 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said processing unit is programmed to determine a time to execute each of said transactions.
13 . The system of claim 8 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said processing unit is programmed to determine an available amount of log space.
14 . The system of claim 13 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, wherein said processing unit is programmed to schedule execution of said transactions such that the estimated total log space required for executing said workload is less than said amount of available log space.
15 . A product comprising a recording means for scheduling workload comprising a plurality of transactions relating to a database management system, said product configured for:
determining a log space amount required by each transaction in said workload; estimating the total log space required for executing said workload based on the log space amounts required by each transaction; and scheduling execution of said workload based on said estimated total log space; wherein said transactions comprise one or more queries on said database management system.
16 . The product of claim 15 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further configured for determining the log space amounts required by said transactions based on a learned model.
17 . The product of claim 15 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further configured for:
scheduling execution of each transaction in said workload; determining a time to execute each of said transactions; and determining an available amount of log space.
18 . The product of claim 17 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further configured for scheduling execution of said transactions such that the estimated total log space required for executing said workload is less than said amount of available log space
19 . A computer program product comprising a computer readable medium comprising a computer program recorded therein for scheduling a workload comprising a plurality of transactions relating to a database management system, said computer program product comprising:
computer software program code for determining a log space amount required by each transaction in said workload; computer software program code for estimating the total log space required for executing said workload based on the log space amounts required by each transaction; and computer software program code for scheduling execution of said workload based on said estimated total log space.
20 . The computer program product of claim 19 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further comprising computer software program code for determining the log space amounts required by said transactions based on a learned model.
21 . The computer program product of claim 19 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further comprising computer software program code for scheduling execution of each transaction in said workload.
22 . The computer program product of claim 19 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further comprising computer software program code for determining a time to execute each of said transactions.
23 . The computer program product of claim 19 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further comprising computer software program code for determining an available amount of log space.
24 . The computer program product of claim 23 , all the limitations of which are incorporated herein by reference, further comprising computer software program code for scheduling execution of said transactions such that the estimated total log space required for executing said workload is less than said amount of available log space.Cited by (0)
