Abstract

A power spool device and kit is described for use in conveniently winding up and storing electrical cords, such as, electrical cords for Christmas lights. The power spool device includes a spool housing having of two end caps and an axle; and also includes a detachable motorized drive unit having a handle and a motor. The detachable motorized drive unit is slidably attachable to the spool housing. The device is configured so that a user can be able to control the motorized drive unit with one hand in order to mechanical rotate of the spool housing so that the user's other hand is free to guide the electrical cord around the rotating spool housing. The kit includes the unconnected components of the power spool device.

1 . A power spool device comprising:
 a spool housing including:
 an axle; 
 a front-end cap rotatably attached to a front-end of the axle; and 
 a rear-end cap rotatably attached to a rear end of the axle; and 
   a motorized drive unit rotatably attached to the spool housing, the motorized drive unit including:
 a handle; and 
 a motor having an axial shaft, the motor attached to the handle, the axial shaft of the motor rotatably attached to the axle of spool housing. 
   
   
   
       2 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the axle of the spool housing comprises:
 a female pseudo-electric socket orifice;   a wire channel;   a cavity centrally disposed within the axle in which the cavity being defined by the interior surface of the axle; and   a plurality of bumps attached to the exterior surface of the axle.   
   
   
       3 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the front-end cap of the spool housing comprises:
 a mouth configured to provide access into the centrally disposed cavity of the axle; and   a plurality of first couplers attached to the front-end cap.   
   
   
       4 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the front-end caps and the rear-end caps of the spool housings are configured to mate together when the spool housings are stacked together. 
   
   
       5 . The device of  claim 1  further comprising
 an arcuate panel attached to the front and rear-end caps, wherein the arcuate panel having a lip; and   an arcuate door slidably attached to the front and rear-end caps, wherein the arcuate door having a ledge in which the ledge and the lip are configured to lock together when the arcuate door is closed.   
   
   
       6 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the spool housing comprising a plurality of first couplers attached to the front-end cap; and the motorized drive unit comprising a plurality of second couplers attached to the handle, wherein the first and second couplers are configured to mate together in order to secure the motorized drive unit to the spool housing. 
   
   
       7 . The device of  claim 7  further comprising the motorized drive unit having a latch slidably attached to the handle, wherein the latch configured to lock the handle to the spool housing when the first and second couplers are mated together. 
   
   
       8 . The device of  claim 1  further comprising the motorized drive unit including
 an on/off switch mounted onto the handle;   a speed switch mounted onto the handle; and   a directional switch mounted onto handle.   
   
   
       9 . The device of  claim 8  wherein the handle having
 a hinge attached to the handle;   a hatch attached to the hinge; and   a clasp attached to the hatch, wherein the clasp configured to lock the hatch in a closed position to the handle;   an axial shaft including:
 a battery compartment configured to hold a battery wherein the hatch configured to provide access into the battery compartment; 
 an electrical power connect configured to electrically couple with the battery; 
 a circuit attached to the axial shaft and electrically coupled to the electrical power connect, wherein the circuit electrically coupled to the oil/off switch, the speed switch, and the directional switch wherein the circuit electrically coupled to the motor; and 
 a drive shaft attached to the motor. 
   
   
   
       10 . The device of  claim 9  further comprising
 a first drive engagement unit attached to the drive shaft; and   a shell housing having:
 an exterior drive surface; 
 a pocket; and 
 a second drive engagement unit mechanically coupled to the first drive engagement unit wherein the shell housing is rotatably attached to the axial shaft, and the exterior drive surface of the shell housing configured to mechanically couple with the cavity of the axle, and the pocket of the shell housing configured to enshroud around the axial shaft. 
   
   
   
       11 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the motorized drive unit is detachable from the spool housing. 
   
   
       12 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the front-end cap of the spool housing having a plurality of dimples distributed along an edge of the front-end cap, and the rear-end cap of the spool housing having a plurality of nubs distributed along an edge of the rear-end cap wherein the nubs and the dimples configured to mechanically mate together. 
   
   
       13 . The kit of  claim 1  wherein the front-end cap of the spool housing having a plurality of nubs distributed along an edge of the front-end cap, and the rear-end cap of the spool housing having a plurality of dimples distributed along an edge of the rear-end cap wherein the nubs and the dimples configured to mechanically mate together. 
   
   
       14 . The device of  claim 6  wherein first couplers being configured as female bayonet couplers and the second couplers configured as male bayonet couplers. 
   
   
       15 . The device of  claim 6  wherein first couplers being configured as male bayonet couplers and the second couplers configured as female bayonet couplers. 
   
   
       16 . The device of  claim 10  wherein the first drive engagement unit comprises a male hexagonal drive engagement unit and the second drive engagement unit comprises a female hexagonal drive engagement unit. 
   
   
       17 . The device of  claim 10  wherein the first drive engagement unit comprises a female hexagonal drive engagement unit and the second drive engagement unit comprises a male hexagonal drive engagement unit. 
   
   
       18 . A power spool kit comprising:
 at least one spool housing, each spool housing including:
 an axle having an interior and an exterior surface, the axle having:
 a female pseudo-electric socket orifice; 
 a wire channel; 
 a cavity centrally disposed within the axle in which the cavity being defined by the interior surface of the axle; and 
 a plurality of bumps attached to the exterior surface of the axle; 
 
 a front-end cap rotatably attached to a front-end of the axle, the front-end cap having:
 a mouth configured to provide access into the centrally disposed cavity of the axle; 
 a plurality of first couplers attached to the front-end cap; 
 
 a rear-end cap rotatably attached to a rear end of the axle, wherein the front-end caps and the rear-end caps of the spool housings are configured to mate together when the spool housings are stacked together; 
 an arcuate panel attached to the front and rear-end caps, wherein the arcuate panel having a lip; and 
 an arcuate door slidably attached to the front and rear-end caps, wherein the arcuate door having a ledge in which the ledge and the lip are configured to lock together when the arcuate door is closed. 
   
   
   
       19 . The kit of  claim 18  further comprising:
 a motorized drive unit including:
 a handle; 
 a plurality of second couplers attached to the handle, wherein the first and second couplers are configured to mate together in order to secure the motorized drive unit to any one spool housing; 
 a latch slidably attached to the handle, wherein the latch configured to lock the handle to any one spool housing when the first and second couplers are mated together; 
 an on/off switch mounted onto the handle; 
 a speed switch mounted onto the handle; 
 a directional switch mounted onto handle; 
 a hinge attached to the handle; 
 a hatch attached to the hinge; 
 a clasp attached to the hatch, wherein the clasp configured to lock the hatch in a closed position to the handle; 
 an axial shaft attached to the handle, the axial shaft having:
 a battery compartment configured to hold a battery wherein the hatch configured to provide access into the battery compartment; 
 an electrical power connect configured to electrically couple with the battery; 
 a circuit attached to the axial shaft and electrically coupled to the electrical power connect, wherein the circuit electrically coupled to the on/off switch, the speed switch, and the directional switch; 
 a motor attached to the axial shaft, the motor electrically coupled to the circuit; 
 a drive shaft attached to the motor; and 
 a first drive engagement unit attached to the drive shaft; and 
 
 a shell housing having:
 an exterior drive surface; 
 a pocket; and 
 a second drive engagement unit mechanically coupled to the first drive engagement unit wherein the shell housing is rotatably attached to the axial shaft, the exterior drive surface of the shell housing configured to mechanically couple with the cavity of the axle, and wherein the pocket of the shell housing configured to enshroud around the axial shaft.
