Abstract
Data about operation of a well for extracting a product from the subterranean reservoir and at least one of a characteristic of a subterranean reservoir or operation of a processing and transport system upstream of a point of sale is received. A corrective action can be automatically initiated on at least one of the well or the processing and transport system in response to a difference between the received data and a specified operational objective. An adjustment to a model of the reservoir, the well, and the processing and transporting system can be automatically initiated in response to the received data.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of managing an upstream system for production from a subterranean reservoir, comprising:
determining a characteristic of operation of a well for extracting a product from the subterranean reservoir; determining a characteristic of an operation of a processing and transport system for processing the product and transporting the product to a point of sale; determining a characteristic of the subterranean reservoir; automatically determining, in response to the characteristics, a control setting for the well using a well model for modeling the well, a subterranean reservoir model for modeling the subterranean reservoir, and a processing and transport system model for modeling the processing and transport system, the control setting determined based at least on a specified operational objective; and automatically initiating an adjustment to the well in response to the control setting.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining a characteristic of operation of a well; determining a characteristic of an operation of a processing and transport system; determining a characteristic of the subterranean reservoir; automatically determining a control setting; and automatically initiating an adjustment to the well in response to the control setting are performed in real time.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the operational objective comprises at least one of a product sales rate or a product production rate.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the processing and transport system comprises a production facility for processing the product upstream of a refinery and a gathering system for transporting the product from the well to the point of sale.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein automatically initiating an adjustment to the well comprises initiating an adjustment to at least one of a production rate from the well or an injection rate to the well.

The method of claim 1 further comprising automatically determining, in response to the characteristics, a control setting for the processing and transport system using the well model for modeling the well, the subterranean reservoir model for modeling the subterranean reservoir, and the processing and transport system model for modeling the processing and transport system.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining a characteristic of operation of a well comprises determining at least one of flow rate, pressure, temperature, fluid composition, fluid density, viscosity or actuator state.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining a characteristic of the subterranean reservoir comprises determining at least one of a seismic characteristic, a geologic characteristic, or a log characteristic.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining a characteristic of an operation of a processing and transport system comprises determining at least one of a flow rate, pressure temperature, fluid composition, fluid density, viscosity or actuator state.
10 . An article comprising a machine-readable medium storing instructions operable to cause one or more machines to perform operations comprising:
determine a characteristic of operation of a well for extracting a product from a subterranean reservoir; determine a characteristic of an operation of a processing and transport system for processing the product and transporting the product to a point of sale; determine a characteristic of the subterranean reservoir; automatically determine, in response to the characteristics, a control setting for the well using a well model for modeling the well, a subterranean reservoir model for modeling the subterranean reservoir, and a processing and transport system model for modeling the processing and transport system, the control setting determined based at least on a specified operational objective; and automatically initiate an adjustment to the well in response to the control setting.

The article of claim 10 , wherein the operations of determining a characteristic of operation of a well; determining a characteristic of an operation of a processing and transport system; determining a characteristic of the subterranean reservoir; automatically determining a control setting; and automatically initiating an adjustment to the well in response to the control setting are performed in real time.
12 . The article of claim 10 , wherein the operational objective comprises at least one of a product sales rate or a product production rate.
13 . The article of claim 10 , wherein the operation of automatically initiating an adjustment to the well comprises initiating an adjustment to at least one of a production rate from the well or an injection rate to the well.

The article of claim 10 wherein the machine-readable medium storing instructions is further operable to automatically determine, in response to the characteristics, a control setting for the processing and transport system using the well model for modeling the well, the subterranean reservoir model for modeling the subterranean reservoir, and the processing and transport system model for modeling the processing and transport system.
15 . An upstream production system, comprising:
at least one processor; and at least one memory coupled to the at least one processor and storing instructions operable to cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:
determine a characteristic of operation of a well for extracting a product from a subterranean reservoir;
determine a characteristic of an operation of a processing and transport system for processing the product and transporting the product to a point of sale;
determine a characteristic of the subterranean reservoir;
automatically determine, in response to the characteristics, a control setting for the well using a well model for modeling the well, a subterranean reservoir model for modeling the subterranean reservoir, and a processing and transport system model for modeling the processing and transport system, the control setting determined based at least on a specified operational objective; and
automatically initiate an adjustment to the well in response to the control setting.

The upstream production system of claim 15 , wherein the operations of determining a characteristic of operation of a well; determining a characteristic of an operation of a processing and transport system; determine a characteristic of the subterranean reservoir; automatically determining a control setting; and automatically initiating an adjustment to the well in response to the control setting are performed in real time.
17 . The upstream production system of claim 15 , wherein the operational objective comprises at least one of a product sales rate or a product production rate.
18 . The upstream production system of claim 15 , wherein the operation of automatically initiating an adjustment to the well comprises initiating an adjustment to at least one of a production rate from the well or an injection rate to the well.

The upstream production system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one memory coupled to the at least one processor and storing instructions is further operable to cause the at least one processor to perform the operation comprising automatically determining, in response to the characteristics, a control setting for the processing and transport system using the well model for modeling the well, the subterranean reservoir model for modeling the subterranean reservoir, and the processing and transport system model for modeling the processing and transport system.Cited by (0)
