Abstract
The data structure on the recording medium includes a temporary defect management area storing a data block. The data block includes sequential recording information and a temporary definition structure. The sequential recording information provides information on continuous recording areas in the data area of the recording medium. The temporary definition structure includes at least one pointer to information in the temporary defect management area.

a temporary management area used to store sequential recording information, the sequential recording information providing information on continuous recording areas allocated in the data area of the recording medium, wherein the sequential recording information comprises a header information, at least one entry and terminator information, the header information including an identifier identifying the sequential recording information, each entry providing information on an associated continuous recording area, and the terminator information indicating an end of the sequential recording information.
2 . The recording medium of claim 1 , wherein the header information further includes a first indicator indicating a number of all the continuous recording areas allocated in the data area.
3 . The recording medium of claim 2 , wherein the header information further includes a second indicator indicating a number of the continuous recording areas open for recording.
4 . The recording medium of claim 1 , wherein each entry further includes information indicating a starting physical sector number of the associated continuous recording area.
5 . The recording medium of claim 1 , wherein each entry further includes information indicating a last recording address of the associated continuous recording area.
6 . The recording medium of claim 1 , wherein each entry further includes status information indicating whether the associated continuous recording area is recordable or non-recordable.
7 . The recording medium of claim 6 , wherein the status information further indicating whether the associated continuous recording area is a start of a group of continuous recording areas.
8 . The recording medium of claim 1 , wherein the recording medium further includes a final management area used to store the last version of sequential recording information recorded in the temporary management area.
9 . A method of recording management information on a recording medium, the method comprising:
recording data in continuous recording areas allocated in a data area of the recording medium; and recording sequential recording information in a temporary management area of the recording medium, the sequential recording information providing information on the continuous recording areas, wherein the sequential recording information comprises a header information, at least one entry and terminator information, the header information including an identifier identifying the sequential recording information, each entry providing information on an associated continuous recording area, and the terminator information indicating an end of the sequential recording information.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the header information further includes a first indicator indicating a number of the all continuous recording areas allocated in the data area.
11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein each entry further includes information indicating a starting physical sector number of the associated continuous recording area.
12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein each entry further includes information indicating a last recording address of the associated continuous recording area.
13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein each entry further includes status information indicating whether the associated continuous recording area is recordable or non-recordable.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the status information further indicating whether the associated continuous recording area is a start of a group of continuous recording areas.
15 . The method of claim 9 , the method further comprising:
recording the last version of sequential recording information recorded in the temporary management area in a final management area of the recording medium.
16 . A method of reproducing data from a recording medium, the method comprising:
reading sequential recording information from a temporary management area of the recording medium, the sequential recording information providing information on continuous recording areas allocated in a data area of the recording medium, wherein the sequential recording information comprises a header information, at least one entry and terminator information, the header information including an identifier identifying the sequential recording information, each entry providing information on an associated continuous recording area, and the terminator information indicating an end of the sequential recording information; and reproducing data from the continuous recording areas of the recording medium according to the sequential recording information.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the header information further includes a first indicator indicating a number of all the continuous recording areas allocated in the data area.
18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein each entry further includes information indicating a starting physical sector number of the associated continuous recording area.
19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein each entry further includes information indicating a last recording address of the associated continuous recording area.
20 . An apparatus for recording management information on a recording medium, the apparatus comprising:
an optical pickup configured to record data and information on continuous recording areas allocated in a data area of the recording medium; and a controller, operatively coupled to the optical pickup, configured to control the optical pickup to record sequential recording information in a temporary management area of the recording medium, the sequential recording information providing information on the continuous recording areas, wherein the sequential recording information comprises a header information, at least one entry and terminator information, the header information including an identifier identifying the sequential recording information, each entry providing information on an associated continuous recording area, and the terminator information indicating an end of the sequential recording information.
21 . The apparatus of claim 20 , further comprising:
an encoder, operatively controlled by the controller, configured to receive and encode input data; a multiplexer, operatively controlled by the controller, configured to multiplex the encoded data based on the coding information and stream attribute information to create a transport stream; and a source packetizer, operatively controlled by the controller, configured packetize the transport stream from the multiplexer into source packets.
22 . The apparatus of claim 20 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to record a first indicator in the header information, the first indicator indicating a number of the all continuous recording areas allocated in the data area.
23 . The apparatus of claim 20 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to record a starting physical sector number of the associated continuous recording area in each entry.
24 . The apparatus of claim 20 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to record a last recording address of the associated continuous recording area in each entry.
25 . The apparatus of claim 20 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to record status information in each entry, the status information indicating whether the associated continuous recording area is recordable or non-recordable.
26 . The apparatus of claim 25 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to record an indicator in the status information, the indicator indicating whether the associated continuous recording area is a start of a group of continuous recording areas.
27 . The apparatus of claim 20 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to record the last version of sequential recording information recorded in the temporary management area in a final management area of the recording medium.
28 . An apparatus for reproducing data from a recording medium, comprising:
an optical pickup configured to read data and information from the recording medium; and a controller, operatively coupled to the optical pickup, configured to control the optical pickup to read sequential recording information from a temporary management area of the recording medium, the sequential recording information providing information on continuous recording areas allocated in a data area of the recording medium, and the controller configured to further control the optical pickup to reproduce data from the continuous recording areas of the recording medium according to the sequential recording information, wherein the sequential recording information comprises a header information, at least one entry and terminator information, the header information including an identifier identifying the sequential recording information, each entry providing information on an associated continuous recording area, and the terminator information indicating an end of the sequential recording information.
29 . The apparatus of claim 28 , further comprising:
a source depacketizer, operatively controlled by the controller, configured to convert source packets received from the optical pickup into a data stream; a demultiplexer, operatively controlled by the controller, configured to demultiplex the data stream into encoded data; and a decoder, operatively controlled by the controller, configured to decode the encoded data to produce original data.
30 . The apparatus of claim 28 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to read a first indicator from the header information, the first indicator indicating a number of all the continuous recording areas allocated in the data area.
31 . The apparatus of claim 28 , the controller configured to control the optical pickup to read a starting physical sector number of the associated continuous recording area from each entry.
