Abstract
In certain embodiments, a log assembly includes one or more substantially noncombustible logs. The assembly can include a frame configured to support at least one of the logs. The frame can include a base portion configured to rest on a floor. The base portion can define a lower spatial extent of the assembly. In some embodiments, the log assembly includes a burner coupled with the frame. The burner can be configured to produce a flame. The assembly can include a fuel delivery system substantially above the lower spatial extent defined by the base portion of the frame. The system can be configured to receive fuel from a fuel source and to supply fuel to the burner. The log assembly can include a lighting housing coupled with the frame, with substantially all of the lighting housing above the lower spatial extent defined by the base portion of the frame. One or more light sources can be coupled with the lighting housing.

one or more substantially noncombustible logs; a frame configured to support at least one of the logs, the frame including a base portion configured to rest on a floor, the base portion defining a lower spatial extent of the log assembly; a burner coupled with the frame, the burner configured to produce a flame; a fuel delivery system substantially above the lower spatial extent defined by the base portion of the frame, the fuel delivery system configured to receive fuel from a fuel source and to supply fuel to the burner; a lighting housing coupled with the frame, substantially all of the lighting housing above the lower spatial extent defined by the base portion of the frame; and one or more light sources coupled with the lighting housing.
2 . The log assembly of claim 1 , wherein the one or more light sources comprise one or more light-emitting diodes.
3 . The log assembly of claim 1 , wherein the frame defines a rear surface, the lighting housing coupled with the rear surface defined by the frame such that the lighting housing is substantially hidden from view from a position in front of the frame.
4 . The log assembly of claim 1 , wherein the lighting housing is detachably coupled to the frame.
5 . The log assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a remote control configured to selectively illuminate the one or more light sources.
6 . The log assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a localized power source configured to provide electrical power to the one or more light sources.
7 . The log assembly of claim 6 , wherein the power source is substantially above the lower spatial extent defined by the base portion of the frame.
8 . The log assembly of claim 6 , wherein the power source comprises one or more batteries.
9 . The log assembly of claim 6 , further comprising one or more movable light sources electrically coupled with the power source, said one or more movable light sources configured to be selectively positioned relative to the frame.
10 . The log assembly of claim 6 , wherein the one or more light sources comprise one or more light-emitting diodes.
11 . The log assembly of claim 6 , further comprising a remote control configured to selectively illuminate the one or more light sources.
12 . The log assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a moveable light source coupled with the lighting housing, the moveable light source configured to be selectively positioned relative to the frame.
13 . The log assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fuel delivery system is substantially within a volume of space defined by the frame.
14 . The log assembly of claim 1 , wherein the burner is configured to create air currents that cause relatively cool air to circulate about the log assembly without the cool air first passing through a vent.
15 . A log apparatus comprising:
a frame configured to support one or more logs, the frame defining a front surface and further defining a base portion configured to rest on a floor, the base portion defining a lower spatial extent of the log apparatus; a burner configured to produce a flame; a fuel delivery system substantially above the lower spatial extent defined by the base portion of the frame, the fuel delivery system configured to receive fuel from a fuel source and to supply fuel to the burner; one or more light sources; and a localized power source coupled with the one or more light sources, the power source positioned above the lower spatial extent defined by the base of the frame.
16 . The log apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the one or more light sources comprise one or more light-emitting diodes.
17 . The log apparatus of claim 15 , further comprising a remote control configured to selectively illuminate the one or more light sources.
18 . The log apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the one or more light sources are positioned rearward of the front surface defined by the frame and above the lower spatial extent defined by the base of the frame.
19 . The log assembly of claim 15 , wherein the one or more light sources are movable relative to the frame such that said one or more light sources can be selectively positioned.
20 . The log apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the one or more light sources are detachably coupled to the frame such that the one or more light sources can produce light when detached from the frame.
21 . The log apparatus of claim 15 , the burner is configured to create air currents that cause relatively cool air to circulate about the log apparatus without the cool air first passing through a vent.
22 . A log assembly comprising:
one or more substantially noncombustible logs; one or more support surfaces configured to support at least one of the logs above a floor of a chamber; a burner configured to produce a flame; a fuel delivery system configured to receive fuel from a fuel source and to supply fuel to the burner, a substantial portion of the fuel delivery system positioned above the floor of the chamber; and one or more light sources positioned above the floor of the chamber.
23 . The log assembly of claim 22 , wherein the one or more light sources comprise one or more light-emitting diodes.
24 . The log assembly of claim 22 , further comprising a remote control configured to selectively illuminate the one or more light sources.
25 . The log assembly of claim 22 , further comprising a localized power source configured to provide electrical power to the one or more light sources.
26 . The log assembly of claim 25 , wherein the power source is positioned substantially above the floor of the chamber.
27 . The log assembly of claim 25 , wherein the power source comprises one or more batteries.
28 . The log assembly of claim 25 , further comprising one or more movable light sources electrically coupled with the power source, said one or more movable light sources configured to be selectively positioned relative to the one or more support surfaces.
29 . The log assembly of claim 25 , wherein the one or more light sources comprise one or more light-emitting diodes.
30 . The log assembly of claim 25 , further comprising a remote control configured to selectively illuminate the one or more light sources.
31 . The log assembly of claim 22 , further comprising a moveable light source coupled with the lighting housing, the moveable light source configured to be selectively positioned relative to the one or more support surfaces.
32 . The log assembly of claim 22 , wherein the burner is configured to create air currents that cause relatively cool air to circulate about the log assembly without said cool air first passing through a vent.
33 . A flame-producing device comprising:
one or more substantially noncombustible logs sized to fit within a cavity; a frame configured to support at least one of the logs, the frame including a base portion configured to rest on a floor of the cavity, the base portion defining a lower spatial extent of the device; a burner coupled with the frame, the burner configured to produce a flame; a fuel delivery system substantially above the lower spatial extent defined by the base portion of the frame, the fuel delivery system configured to receive fuel from a fuel source and to supply fuel to the burner; one or more light sources independent of the burner, the one or more light sources configured to be within the cavity when the burner produces a flame, the one or more light sources configured to produce an illumination pattern on a wall of the cavity; and a localized power source configured to provide electrical energy to the one or more light sources.
34 . A method for providing a flame-producing device with ambient lighting, the method comprising:
providing one or more substantially noncombustible logs; providing a frame configured to support at least one of the one or more logs; providing a burner configured to produce a flame; providing a fuel delivery system at a position substantially above a lower spatial extent defined by the frame, the fuel delivery system configured to receive fuel from a fuel source and to supply fuel to the burner; providing one or more light sources at a position rearward of a front surface defined by the frame and above the lower spatial extent defined by the frame; and providing a localized power source for the one or more light sources at a position above the lower spatial extent defined by the base of the frame.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
