Abstract

A tamperproof package for gift cards utilizes a laminate of at least two panels for encasing a card in a durable package which is tamper evident when opened. The surface of one of the panels includes information desirable for merchandising and activating the gift card.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A tamper evident package for a prepayable card comprising:
first and second panels; a prepayable card positioned between said first and second panels and laminated therebetween; and perforations formed through said first and second panels and extending through the area of said pocket such that, upon flexing, said panels break apart to gain access to said card.

2 . The tamper evident package as defined in claim 1 and further including a third panel having a card-receiving pocket therein, wherein said card is placed in said pocket and said first and second panels laminate said third panel therebetween.

3 . The tamper evident package as defined in claim 2 wherein one of said first, second and third panels includes a tab extending therefrom for receiving one of an activating magnetic strip and barcode.

4 . The tamper evident package as defined in claim 1 wherein said panels are generally rectangular.

5 . The tamper evident package as defined in claim 4 wherein said panels are made of styrene having a thickness of from about 0.020 inches to about 0.025 inches.

6 . The tamper evident package as defined in claim 5 wherein said panels are bonded together using one of a cyanoacrylate adhesive and a polyurethane reactive adhesive.

7 . A security package for a prepaid card comprising:
a first panel having a cutout defining a pocket for receiving a card therein; a second panel overlying one surface of said first panel; a third panel overlying a side of said first panel opposite said first side; and an adhesive between said first, second and third panels for laminating said panels together with a card held within said pocket.

8 . The security package as defined in claim 7 wherein said first, second and third panels are perforated along a line intersecting said pocket such that access to said card can be obtained by breaking said panels at said perforation.

9 . The security package as defined in claim 8 wherein one of said first, second and third panels has a tab extending therefrom for receiving one of a magnetic strip and bar code for authorizing said card.

10 . The security package as defined in claim 9 wherein said panels are made of styrene having a thickness of from about 0.020 inches to about 0.025 inches.

11 . The security package as defined in claim 10 wherein said panels are laminated together using an adhesive.

12 . The security package as defined in claim 11 wherein said adhesive is one of a cyanoacrylate adhesive and a polyurethane reactive adhesive.

13 . The security package as defined in claim 12 wherein said panels are generally rectangular.

14 . A security package for a prepaid card comprising:
a first panel having a lateral cutout defining a pocket for receiving a card therein; a second panel overlying one side of said first panel; a third panel for overlying a side of said first panel opposite said first side; and an adhesive extending between said first, second and third panels for laminating a card within said pocket.

15 . The security package as defined in claim 14 wherein said first, second and third panels are perforated along the line intersecting said pocket such that access to said card can be obtained by breaking said panels at said perforation.

16 . The security package as defined in claim 15 wherein said first and second panels are hinged together and said second and third panels are hinged together.

17 . The security package as defined in claim 16 wherein at least one of said first, second and third panels has a tab extending therefrom for receiving one of a magnetic strip and bar code for authorizing said card.

18 . The security package as defined in claim 17 wherein said first, second and third panels are made of styrene having a thickness of from about 0.020 inches to about 0.025 inches.

19 . The security package as defined in claim 18 wherein said panels are generally rectangular and are bonded together using an adhesive.

20 . The security package as defined in claim 19 wherein said adhesive is one of a cyanoacrylate adhesive and a polyurethane reactive adhesive.
