Abstract

The invention provides a nutritional supplement and/or pharmaceutical composition for tableting comprising an embedded lubrication matrix. The embedded lubrication matrix comprises an oily liquid finely dispersed in an oil insoluble material. A method of lubricating a nutritional supplement or pharmaceutical composition for tableting using a matrix with embedded lubrication is also provided.

A nutritional supplement tablet composition comprising an embedded lubrication matrix wherein the embedded lubrication matrix comprises an oily liquid finely dispersed in an oil insoluble material, and wherein the nutritional supplement composition is substantially free of stearate. 
     
     
         2 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 1 , wherein the oily liquid is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin E, animal oil, synthetic oil, mineral oil, polyethylene glycol, silicon oil and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         3 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 2 , wherein the oily liquid is Vitamin E acetate. 
     
     
         4 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 1 , wherein the oil-insoluble material is selected from the group consisting of starch, dextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, ethylcellulose, gelatin, sugars, glucose, maltose, fructose, sorbitol, sucrose, mannitol, sorbitol, lactose, methylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, anhydrous dicalcium phosphate, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         5 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one mineral. 
     
     
         6 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one vitamin. 
     
     
         7 . The nutritional supplement composition of  claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one nutritional agent. 
     
     
         8 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 7 , wherein the at least one nutritional agent is selected form the group consisting of carotinoids, fiber, phytosterols, glucosides, polyphenols, B complex related compounds, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, glucosamine, herbals, amino acids, peptides, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         9 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one vitamin and at least one mineral. 
     
     
         10 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 1 , wherein the composition is a direct compression composition. 
     
     
         11 . The nutritional supplement tablet composition of  claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises a granulation. 
     
     
         12 . A multivitamin and mineral composition comprising an embedded lubrication matrix wherein the embedded lubrication matrix comprises an oily liquid finely dispersed in an oil insoluble material, and wherein the tablet composition is substantially free of stearate. 
     
     
         13 . The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claim 12 , wherein the oily liquid is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin E, animal oil, synthetic oil, mineral oil, polyethylene glycol, silicon oil and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         14 . The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claims 13 , wherein the oily liquid is Vitamin E acetate. 
     
     
         15 . The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claim 12 , wherein the oil-insoluble material is selected from the group consisting of starch, dextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, ethylcellulose, gelatin, sugars, glucose, maltose, fructose, sorbitol, sucrose, mannitol, sorbitol, lactose, methylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, anhydrous dicalcium phosphate, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         16 . The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claim 12 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one nutritional agent.

The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claim 16 , wherein the at least one nutritional agent is selected form the group consisting of carotinoids, fiber, phytosterols, glucosides, polyphenols, B complex related compounds, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, glucosamine, herbals, amino acids, peptides, and combinations there of. 
     
     
         18 . The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claim 12 , wherein the composition is a direct compression composition. 
     
     
         19 . The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claim 12 , wherein the composition comprises a granulation. 
     
     
         20 . The multivitamin and mineral composition of  claim 12 , wherein the composition is a composition for roller compaction. 
     
     
         21 . A pharmaceutical tablet composition comprising an embedded lubrication matrix wherein the embedded lubrication matrix comprises an oily liquid dispersed in an oil insoluble base material, and wherein the pharmaceutical composition is substantially free of stearate. 
     
     
         22 . The pharmaceutical tablet composition of  claim 21 , wherein the oily liquid is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin E, animal oil, synthetic oil, mineral oil, polyethylene glycol, silicon oil and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         23 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 21 , wherein the oily liquid is Vitamin E. 
     
     
         24 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 21 , wherein the oil-insoluble material is selected from the group consisting of starch, dextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, ethylcellulose, gelatin, sugars, glucose, maltose, fructose, sorbitol, sucrose, mannitol, sorbitol, lactose, methylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, anhydrous dicalcium phosphate, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         25 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 21 , wherein the composition is a direct compression composition. 
     
     
         26 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises a granulation. 
     
     
         27 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 21 , wherein the composition is a composition for roller compaction. 
     
     
         28 . A method of lubricating a nutritional supplement composition comprising providing a matrix with embedded liquid lubricant, providing a nutritional supplement composition, mixing the matrix with embedded liquid lubricant and the nutritional supplement composition, and forming a tablet, wherein the nutritional supplement composition is substantially free of stearate. 
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the nutritional supplement composition comprises at least one mineral. 
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the nutritional supplement composition comprises at least one vitamin. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the nutritional supplement composition comprises a multivitamin and mineral composition. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the nutritional supplement composition comprises at least one nutritional agent. 
     
     
         33 . The nutritional supplement composition of  claim 32 , wherein the at least one nutritional agent is selected form the group consisting of carotinoids, fiber, phytosterols, glucosides, polyphenols, B complex related compounds, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, glucosamine, herbals, amino acids and peptides. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the matrix with embedded liquid lubrication comprises an oily liquid finely dispersed in an oil insoluble material. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 34 , wherein the oily liquid is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin E, animal oil, synthetic oil, mineral oil, polyethylene glycol, silicon oil and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         36 . The nutritional supplement composition of  claims 35 , wherein the oily liquid is Vitamin E acetate. 
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 34 , wherein the oil-insoluble material is selected from the group consisting of starch, dextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, ethylcellulose, gelatin, sugars, glucose, maltose, fructose, sorbitol, sucrose, mannitol, sorbitol, lactose, methylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, anhydrous dicalcium phosphate, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the mixed matrix with embedded liquid lubricant and nutritional supplement composition is a direct compression mixture. 
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the mixed matrix with embedded liquid lubricant and nutritional supplement composition comprises a granulation. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 28  wherein the mixed matrix with embedded liquid lubricant and nutritional supplement composition is a composition for roller compaction. 
     
     
         41 . A method of lubricating a pharmaceutical composition comprising providing a matrix with embedded liquid lubricant, providing a pharmaceutical active composition, mixing the matrix with embedded liquid lubricant and the pharmaceutical active composition, and forming a tablet, where in the pharmaceutical active composition is substantially free of stearate. 
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 41  wherein the matrix with embedded liquid lubricant comprises an oily liquid dispersed in an oil insoluble material. 
     
     
         43 . The method of  claim 41 , wherein the oily liquid is selected from the group consisting of Vitamin E, animal oil, synthetic oil, mineral oil, polyethylene glycol, silicon oil and combinations thereof 
     
     
         44 . The method of  claim 41 , wherein the oily liquid is Vitamin E acetate. 
     
     
         45 . The method of  claim 41  wherein the oil-insoluble material is selected from the group consisting of starch, dextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, ethylcellulose, gelatin, sugars, glucose, maltose, fructose, sorbitol, sucrose, mannitol, sorbitol, lactose, methylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, anhydrous dicalcium phosphate, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         46 . The method of  claim 41 , wherein the mixed matrix with embedded liquid lubricant and pharmaceutical active composition is a direct compression mixture. 
     
     
         47 . The method of  claim 41 , wherein the mixed matrix with embedded liquid lubricant and pharmaceutical active composition is a granulation.
