Container assemblies with bag engaging member

Abstract

An assembly includes an outer container. The outer container has a top rim defining a mouth of the outer container, and the outer container defines a side opening in a wall thereof. The assembly also includes an interior container. The interior container includes a bag engaging member. The interior container is located within the outer container such that the engaging member covers the side opening in the outer container. The bag engaging member is configured to receive and retain a pliable liner that is disposed within the interior container. The bag engaging member is an insert that is located within an opening in a wall of the interior container or, alternatively, is formed in a wall of the interior container.

       97 . A method of making an assembly comprising the steps of:
 (a) providing a first container having a top rim defining a mouth of the first container and a side opening into an interior of the first container from an exterior of the first container;   (b) providing an interior container having a bag engaging member; and   (c) providing the interior container within the interior of the first container such that the bag engaging member covers the side opening in the first container, the bag engaging member being configured to receive and retain a pliable liner disposed within the interior of the interior container.   
   
   
       98 . The method of  claim 97 , wherein the bag engaging member comprises an insert that is located within an opening in a wall of the interior container. 
   
   
       99 . The method of  claim 97 , wherein the bag engaging member is formed in a wall of the interior container. 
   
   
       100 . A method of using an assembly comprising the steps of:
 (a) providing an assembly including an outer container having a top rim defining a mouth of the outer container, and an interior container that is located within the outer container, wherein the outer container defines a side opening, and wherein the interior container includes a bag engaging member that covers the side opening in the outer container, the bag engaging member being configured to receive and retain a pliable liner disposed within the interior container;   (b) disposing a pliable liner within the interior container and extending the liner over the rim of the outer container; and   (c) retaining the pliable liner in its extension over the rim of the outer container with the bag engaging member of the interior container.   
   
   
       101 . The method of  claim 100 , wherein the bag engaging member comprises an insert that is located within an opening in a wall of the interior container. 
   
   
       102 . The method of  claim 100 , wherein the bag engaging member is formed in a wall of the interior container. 
   
   
       103 . An assembly comprising:
 (a) an outer container having a top rim defining a mouth of the outer container and defining a side opening; and   (b) an interior container that includes a bag engaging member and that is located within the outer container such that the bag engaging member covers the side opening in the outer container;   (c) wherein the bag engaging member is configured to receive and retain a pliable liner disposed within the interior container.   
   
   
       104 . The method of  claim 103 , wherein the bag engaging member comprises an insert that is located within an opening in a wall of the interior container. 
   
   
       104 . The method of  claim 103 , wherein the bag engaging member is formed in a wall of the interior container. 
   
   
       106 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein the bag engaging member defines an open space in the shape of an “X” through which the bag engaging member is configured to receive and retain a pliable liner disposed within the interior container. 
   
   
       107 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein a pliable liner is disposed within the interior container and extends over the rim and is retained by engagement with the bag engaging member. 
   
   
       108 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein the bag engaging member is co-molded with the interior container. 
   
   
       109 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein the bag engaging member is formed in a wall of the interior container. 
   
   
       110 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein the outer container defines a plurality of side openings and wherein the interior container includes a plurality of bag engaging members, each bag engaging member respectively covering one of the side openings in the outer container. 
   
   
       111 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein the side opening is only partially bounded by a peripheral wall of the outer container. 
   
   
       112 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein the side opening is completely bounded by a peripheral wall of the outer container.

       114 . The assembly of  claim 103 , wherein the assembly is a trashcan assembly, and wherein:
 (a) the outer container comprises a trashcan container, and   (b) the interior container is removably received within the trashcan container.
