Abstract

A barrier system includes a barrier having an interior surface and an opposing exterior surface, the interior surface bounding a chamber that is adapted to receive a ballast. A light assembly includes a housing and a light source coupled with the housing. Structure is provided for mounting the light assembly to the barrier by rotation of the light assembly relative to the barrier.

1 . A barrier system comprising:
 a barrier having an interior surface and an opposing exterior surface, the interior surface bounding a chamber that is adapted to receive a ballast;   a light assembly comprising a housing and a light source coupled with the housing;   means for mounting the light assembly to the barrier by rotation of the light assembly relative to the barrier.   
     
     
         2 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the means for mounting the light assembly comprises:
 a first coupling disposed on the barrier; and   a second coupling disposed on the light assembly, the second coupling being removably secured to the first coupling.   
     
     
         3 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the second coupling is removably secured to the first coupling by threaded engagement. 
     
     
         4 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the first coupling or the second coupling comprises at least one bayonet prong and the other of the first coupling and the second coupling comprises at least one bayonet slot configured to receive the at least one bayonet prong. 
     
     
         5 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the first coupling outwardly projects from the exterior surface of the barrier. 
     
     
         6 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the first coupling is integrally formed as a unitary member with the barrier. 
     
     
         7 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the means for mounting the light assembly to the barrier further comprises an adapter, and wherein the second coupling is removably secured to the adapter and the adapter is removably secured to the first coupling. 
     
     
         8 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 2 , further comprising:
 an opening extending from the exterior surface of the barrier to the interior surface of the barrier so that the opening communicates with the chamber; and   the first coupling at least partially encircling the opening.   
     
     
         9 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the light assembly further comprises at least one battery disposed within the housing of the light assembly, the at least one battery be in electrical communication with the light source. 
     
     
         10 . A barrier system comprising:
 a barrier having an interior surface and an opposing exterior surface, the interior surface bounding a chamber that is adapted to receive a ballast;   a light assembly comprising a housing and a light source coupled with the housing;   a first coupling disposed on the barrier; and   a second coupling disposed on the light assembly, the second coupling being removably secured to the first coupling by rotating the second coupling relative to the first coupling.   
     
     
         11 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , further comprising:
 the first coupling comprising a threaded stem outwardly projecting from the exterior surface of the barrier; and   the second coupling comprising threads disposed on or coupled to the housing of the light assembly.   
     
     
         12 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , further comprising:
 the first coupling comprising at least one bayonet slot or bayonet prong disposed on the barrier; and   the second coupling comprises the other of the at least one bayonet slot or bayonet prong disposed on or coupled to the housing of the light assembly.   
     
     
         13 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , further comprising:
 an opening extending from the exterior surface of the barrier to the interior surface of the barrier so that the opening communicates with the chamber, the opening being bounded by an interior surface; and   the first coupling comprising a helical thread formed on the interior surface bounding the opening.   
     
     
         14 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the first coupling is rigidly fixed on the barrier or is rotatably coupled with the barrier. 
     
     
         15 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the second coupling is rotatably coupled to the light assembly. 
     
     
         16 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the second coupling is rigidly secured to or is integrally formed as a unitary portion of the light assembly. 
     
     
         17 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the light assembly further comprises at least one battery disposed within the housing of the light assembly, the at least one battery being in electrical communication with the light source. 
     
     
         18 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the housing of the light assembly comprises:
 an elongated stem, the second coupling being formed on or coupled with the elongated stem; and   a lens mounted on an end of the stem, the lens being comprised of a translucent material.   
     
     
         19 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 18 , wherein the lens has a substantially cylindrical configuration. 
     
     
         20 . A barrier system comprising:
 a barrier having an interior surface and an opposing exterior surface, the interior surface bounding a chamber that is adapted to receive a ballast;   an opening extending from the exterior surface of the barrier to the interior surface of the barrier so that the opening communicates with the chamber; and   a light assembly removably secured within the opening.   
     
     
         21 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 20 , wherein the light assembly is removably secured within the opening of the barrier by rotation of the light assembly relative to the barrier. 
     
     
         22 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 20 , wherein the light assembly is removably secured within the opening of the barrier by threaded engagement. 
     
     
         23 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 20 , wherein the light assembly comprises:
 a housing;   a light source coupled to or disposed within the housing; and   at least one battery disposed within the housing, the at least one battery being in electrical communication with the light source.   
     
     
         24 . The barrier system as recited in  claim 23 , wherein the housing of the light assembly comprises:
 an elongated stem, at least a portion of the stem being removably received within the opening of the barrier; and   a lens mounted on the stem, the lens being comprised of a translucent material.   
     
     
         25 . A method comprising:
 positioning a light assembly on a barrier, the barrier comprising an interior surface and an opposing exterior surface, the interior surface bounding a chamber that is adapted to receive a ballast; and   rotating the light assembly relative to the barrier so as to couple the light assembly to the barrier.   
     
     
         26 . The method as recited in  claim 25 , wherein the step of positioning the light assembly comprises positioning at least a portion of the light assembly within an opening that extends through the barrier from exterior surface to the interior surface.
