Compositions of Plant Carbohydrates as Dietary Supplements

Abstract

Compositions of plant carbohydrates for dietary supplements and nutritional support for promotion and maintenance of good health. Defined nutritionally effective amounts of one to eleven essential saccharides, glyconutrients, are used in various inventive compositions as dietary supplements. The dietary composition herein can include phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, and other non-toxic nutrients. The glyconutritional dietary supplement herein provides essential saccharides which are the building blocks of glycoproteins. These compositions, when administered orally or topically, have been found to improve the well being of mammals suffering from a variety of disorders.

         21 . A dietary supplement composition comprising:
 a first natural source of carbohydrates containing a nutritionally effective amount of acetylated mannose; and   one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates containing a nutritionally effective amount of at least five saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose, wherein the saccharides are in monomeric, oligomeric, polymeric, derivatized or underivatized form.   
     
     
         22 . The dietary supplement of claim  1 , wherein the one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates contain a nutritionally effective amount of at least six saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose.

The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates contain a nutritionally effective amount of at least seven saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose.

The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates contain a nutritionally effective amount of at least eight saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose. 
     
     
         25 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates contain a nutritionally effective amount of at least nine saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose. 
     
     
         26 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates contain a nutritionally effective amount of at least ten saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose. 
     
     
         27 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the first natural source of carbohydrates comprises an aloe vera extract and the one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates comprises one or more of the sources of carbohydrates, other than an aloe extract, is listed in Table 3. 
     
     
         28 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises 10 to 40 weight percent of the first natural source of carbohydrates and 60 to 90 weight percent of the second natural source of carbohydrates. 
     
     
         29 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises 20 weight percent of the first natural source of carbohydrates and 80 weight percent of the second natural source of carbohydrates. 
     
     
         30 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises 0.001 to 99.99 percent by weight of the first natural source of carbohydrates and from 1 to 99 percent by weight of the second natural source of carbohydrates. 
     
     
         31 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises from 20 to 99 weight percent of the first natural source of carbohydrates and from 1 to 80 weight percent of the second natural source of carbohydrates. 
     
     
         32 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition further comprises a flowing agent and a lubricant. 
     
     
         33 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition is a powder, a capsule, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         34 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the one or more second natural sources of carbohydrates containing a nutritionally effective amount at least five saccharides comprise one or more of following: gum tragacanth, guar gum, grain flour, rice flour, sugar cane, beet sugar, potato, milk, agar, algin, locust bean gum, psyllium, karaya gum, seed gums, Larch tree extract, aloe vera extract, gum ghatti, starch, cellulose, degraded cellulose, fructose, high fructose corn syrup, pectin, chitin, acacia, gum arabic, alginic acid, carrageenan, dextran, xanthan gum, chondroitin sulfate, sucrose, acetylated polymannose, maltose, glucan, lentinan, mannan, levan, hemicellulose, inulin, fructan and lactose. 
     
     
         35 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the first natural source of carbohydrates is an aloe vera extract. 
     
     
         36 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises as the first natural source of carbohydrates from 1 to 20 percent by weight of an aloe vera extract, and as the second natural source of carbohydrates from 1 to 20 percent by weight of tragacanth gum, from 1 to 20 percent by weight of gum ghatti, and from 1 to 50 percent by weight of larch tree extract. 
     
     
         37 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises a first natural source of carbohydrates an aloe vera extract, and a second natural source of carbohydrates gum ghatti, tragacanth gum, glucosamine and larch tree extract. 
     
     
         38 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises as the first and second natural sources of carbohydrates aloe vera extract, larch tree extract, gum ghatti, gum tragacanth, N-acetyl glucosamine, guar gum and gum arabic or equivalents thereof. 
     
     
         49 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises as the first and second natural sources of carbohydrates aloe vera extract, larch tree extract, gum ghatti, gum tragacanth, N-acetyl glucosamine, guar gum, gum arabic and chondroitin sulfate or equivalents thereof. 
     
     
         40 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition comprises as the first and second natural sources of carbohydrates from 1 to 10 percent by weight of aloe vera extract, from 1 to 10 percent by weight of gum ghatti, from 1 to 10 percent by weight of tragacanth gum, from 1 to 10 percent by weight of glucosamine, from 0 to 12 percent by weight of starch and from 1 to 48 percent by weight of larch tree extract. 
     
     
         41 . The dietary supplement of  claim 21 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more of the following saccharides galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose provided as monomers in nutritionally effective amounts. 
     
     
         42 . A dietary supplement composition comprising:
 an aloe vera extract containing a nutritionally effective amount of acetylated mannose; and   one or more natural source of carbohydrates containing a nutritionally effective amount of at least six saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose, wherein the saccharides are in monomeric, oligomeric, polymeric, derivatized or underivatized form.   
     
     
         43 . A dietary supplement composition comprising:
 an aloe vera extract containing nutritionally effective amounts of acetylated mannose; and   one or more sources of carbohydrates containing nutritionally effective amounts of at least seven saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose, wherein the sources of carbohydrates contain saccharides are in monomeric, oligomeric, polymeric, derivatized or underivatized form.   
     
     
         44 . A dietary supplement that provides a nutritionally effective amount of saccharides to a mammal, the composition comprising:
 a first natural source of carbohydrates containing acetylated mannose; and   a second natural source of carbohydrates containing one or more natural sources of saccharides in monomeric, oligomeric, polymeric, derivatized or underivatized form, wherein the second natural source of carbohydrates contains at least five saccharides selected from the group consisting of: galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose.   
     
     
         45 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the first natural source of carbohydrates comprises an aloe vera extract. 
     
     
         46 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the second natural source of carbohydrates is selected from one or more of the source carbohydrates, other than an aloe extract, is listed in Table 3. 
     
     
         47 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the second natural source of carbohydrates comprises 1 to 20 percent by weight of tragacanth gum, 1 to 20 percent by weight of gum ghatti and 1 to 50 percent by weight of larch tree extract. 
     
     
         48 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the composition comprises as the first natural source of carbohydrates from 1 to 20 percent by weight of aloe vera extract. 
     
     
         49 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the first natural source of carbohydrates comprises aloe vera extract and the second natural source of carbohydrates comprises gum ghatti, tragacanth gum and arabinogalactan. 
     
     
         50 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the first natural source of carbohydrates comprises aloe vera extract and the second natural source of carbohydrates comprises two or more second natural sources of carbohydrates selected from gum ghatti, tragacanth gum, arabinogalactan, guar gum, gum arabic and chondroitin sulfate. 
     
     
         51 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the first natural source of carbohydrates comprises 1 to 10 percent by weight of aloe vera extract and the second natural source of carbohydrates comprises 1 to 10 percent by weight of gum ghatti, 1 to 10 percent by weight of tragacanth gum, 0 to 12 percent by weight of starch and 1 to 48 percent by weight of arabinogalactan. 
     
     
         52 . The dietary supplement of  claim 44 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more of the following saccharides galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, arabinose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, iduronic acid, arabinogalactan, glucosamine, galactosamine and rhamnose provided as monomers in nutritionally effective amounts.
