Blow Molded Case and System for Creating Same

Abstract

A blow molded case is disclosed generally comprising a double wall, blow molded base portion having inner and outer case walls, and a lid portion connected to the base portion such that the lid, when in a closed position, at least partly covers the inner case wall of the base portion, which accommodates a first object. The outer wall of the base portion has a hole for receiving a second object, such as a drawer or other receptacle. In certain embodiments, the hole is a punched hole, created by extending a punch through a sidewall of the base portion substantially perpendicular to the parting line thereof. In certain embodiments, the sidewall is non-planar, and in some embodiments, the sidewall includes a recess adjacent the hole for easily gripping the second object.

1 . A blow molded case, comprising:
 a blow-molded, double wall base portion, said base portion comprising an outer case wall, an inner case wall for accommodating at least part of an object, and a cavity at least partially enclosed by said inner and outer walls;   a lid portion connected to said base portion and moveable from an open position to a closed position such that, when in the closed position, said lid portion at least partially covers the inner case wall of said base portion; and   a receptacle;   wherein the outer wall of said base portion has a hole therethrough for passing said receptacle through said outer wall and into said cavity.   
     
     
         2 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein the hole comprises a punched hole. 
     
     
         3 . The blow molded case of  claim 2 , wherein at least part of the punched hole corresponds to at least part of the outline of the receptacle. 
     
     
         4 . The blow molded case of  claim 3 , further comprising a wall member corresponding to the outline of the receptacle that extends inwardly from the outer wall of said base portion around the perimeter of the hole. 
     
     
         5 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein:
 said base portion has a mold parting line;   the outer wall of said base portion includes a sidewall extending substantially perpendicular to the parting line; and   the hole is located in the sidewall of the base portion.   
     
     
         6 . The blow molded case of  claim 5 , wherein the sidewall of said base portion is arcuate, such that the hole therethrough is multi-planar. 
     
     
         7 . The blow molded case of  claim 5 , wherein the sidewall of said base portion includes a recess adjacent the hole. 
     
     
         8 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein the inner case wall of said base portion includes an inner surface having a protrusion extending into the cavity substantially perpendicular to the parting line such that a cavity is formed between said protrusion and the sidewall of said base portion. 
     
     
         9 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein said receptacle comprises a drawer. 
     
     
         10 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein said receptacle comprises a removable container. 
     
     
         11 . The blow molded case of  claim 10 , wherein said lid portion includes an outer case wall having a recess therein corresponding to at least part of the outline of said removable container for accommodating said container. 
     
     
         12 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein the outer wall of said base portion includes an inner surface having a protrusion extending into the cavity substantially perpendicular to the parting line and positioned relative to the hole at a distance corresponding to the length of said receptacle, such that movement of said receptacle into the cavity is limited thereby. 
     
     
         13 . The blow molded case of  claim 12 , wherein said receptacle has a bottom surface, and the inner surface of said outer wall includes a plurality of ribs for engaging the bottom surface of said receptacle. 
     
     
         14 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein said lid portion is hingedly connected to said base portion. 
     
     
         15 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein said lid portion is a double wall, blow molded portion. 
     
     
         16 . The blow molded case of  claim 15 , wherein:
 said lid portion comprises an outer case wall and an inner case wall at least partially enclosing a second cavity such that, when said lid portion is in the closed position, the inner case wall of said lid portion at least partially covers the inner case wall of said base portion; and   the outer case wall of said lid portion has a hole therethrough for passing a second object through the outer case wall of said lid portion and into said second cavity.   
     
     
         17 . The blow molded case of  claim 15 , wherein said lid portion is integrally molded with said lid portion. 
     
     
         18 . The blow molded case of  claim 1 , wherein the inner wall of said base portion has a hole at least part of which corresponds to at least part of the outline of the object for receiving the object. 
     
     
         19 . A blow molded case, comprising:
 a blow-molded, double wall base portion, said base portion comprising an outer case wall and an inner case wall for accommodating at least part of an object; and   a blow-molded, double wall lid portion connected to said base portion, said lid portion comprising an outer case wall and an inner case wall at least partially enclosing a cavity, said lid portion being moveable from an open position to a closed position such that, when in the closed position, the inner case wall of said lid portion at least partially covers the inner case wall of said base portion; and   a receptacle;   wherein the outer wall of said lid portion has a hole therethrough for passing said receptacle through the outer wall of said lid portion and into said cavity.   
     
     
         20 . The blow molded case of  claim 19 , wherein said receptacle comprises a removable container insertable through the hole in the outer case wall of said lid portion and into said cavity, wherein the outer case wall of said base portion has a recess therein corresponding to at least part of the outline of said removable container for accommodating said container. 
     
     
         21 . A blow molded case, comprising:
 a blow-molded, double wall base portion, said base portion comprising an outer case wall, an inner case wall for accommodating at least part of a first object, and a cavity at least partially enclosed by said inner and outer walls; and   a lid portion connected to said base portion and moveable from an open position to a closed position such that, when in the closed position, said lid portion at least partially covers the inner case wall of said base portion;   wherein the outer wall of said base portion has a hole therethrough for passing said second object through said outer wall and into said cavity.   
     
     
         22 . The blow molded case of  claim 21 , wherein:
 said lid portion comprises an outer case wall and an inner case wall at least partially enclosing a second cavity such that, when said lid portion is in the closed position, the inner case wall of said lid portion at least partially covers the inner case wall of said base portion; and   the outer case wall of said lid portion has a hole therethrough for passing a third object through the outer case wall of said lid portion and into said second cavity.
