Detachable seat belt for use with a vehicle seat belt to controllably restrain movement of a pet in a vehicle

Abstract

A detachable seat belt is provided for use with a vehicle seat belt to controllably restrain movement of a pet in a vehicle. By anchoring the detachable pet seat belt to a prong and a buckle of a vehicle seat belt system safety may be provided to a pet traveling in a vehicle during a collision or sudden deceleration of the vehicle. In one embodiment, a detachable seat belt is provided for use with a pet in a vehicle having a passenger seat belt system including a vehicle seat belt prong and a vehicle seat belt buckle. The detachable seat belt may comprise a harness configured to releasably couple to the vehicle seat belt prong and the vehicle seat belt buckle of the passenger seat belt system. The detachable seat belt may further comprise a seat belt webbing coupled to the harness, the seat belt webbing including a first side length having a first prong attached thereto and a second side length having a first buckle combined with a webbing adjuster for adjusting and locking the seat belt webbing. In this way, when the seat belt webbing is buckled and adjusted snugly across a torso of a pet, the detachable seat belt may hold the pet safely on a vehicle seat during at least one of a sudden deceleration of the vehicle or in response to an impact force that the vehicle to experience in a collision.

1 . A detachable seat belt for use with a pet in a vehicle having a passenger seat belt system including a vehicle seat belt prong and a vehicle seat belt buckle, the detachable seat belt comprising:
 a harness configured to releasably couple to the vehicle seat belt prong and the vehicle seat belt buckle of the passenger seat belt system; and   a seat belt webbing coupled to the harness, the seat belt webbing including a first side length having a first prong attached thereto and a second side length having a first buckle combined with a webbing adjuster for adjusting and locking the seat belt webbing.   
   
   
       2 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 1 , wherein the harness is configured to form a loop that releasably couples to the passenger seat belt system when the vehicle seat belt prong passes through the loop before coupling to the vehicle seat belt buckle such that when the seat belt webbing is buckled and adjusted snugly across a torso of a pet the detachable seat belt to hold the pet safely on a vehicle seat during at least one of a sudden deceleration of the vehicle or in response to an impact force that the vehicle to experience in a collision.

The detachable seat belt of  claim 1 , wherein the harness having a first harness end and a second harness end, at the first harness end a second prong attached thereto and at the second harness end a second buckle attached thereto for releasably coupling the seat belt webbing to the passenger seat belt system such that when the seat belt webbing is buckled and adjusted snugly across a torso of a pet the detachable seat belt to hold the pet safely on a vehicle seat during at least one of a sudden deceleration of the vehicle or in response to an impact force that the vehicle to experience in a collision. 
   
   
       4 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 3 , wherein the second prong at the first harness end configured to releasably couple to the vehicle seat belt buckle and the second buckle at the second harness end adapted to releasably couple to the vehicle seat belt prong. 
   
   
       5 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 1 , wherein the first buckle further comprising:
 a buckle cover for use with the webbing adjuster for lengthening and shortening the seat belt webbing.   
   
   
       6 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 1 , wherein the webbing adjuster to securely grip and lock the seat belt webbing during the at least one of a sudden deceleration of the vehicle or in response to an impact force that the vehicle to experience in a collision. 
   
   
       7 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 1 , wherein the first prong configured to fit into and releasably lock with the first buckle to join the first side and second side lengths of the seat belt webbing together for forming a pet seat belt. 
   
   
       8 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 7 , wherein the seat belt webbing having a free end that enables a user to pull a portion of the seat belt webbing through the webbing adjuster for a shortening adjustment of the pet seat belt. 
   
   
       9 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 7 , wherein the seat belt webbing having a free end that enables a user to push a portion of the seat belt webbing through the webbing adjuster for a lengthening adjustment of the pet seat belt. 
   
   
       10 . The detachable seat belt of  claim 7 , wherein the seat belt webbing is progressively frictionally gripped by the webbing adjuster for adjusting a length of the pet seat belt. 
   
   
       11 . A detachable safety belt for use in a vehicle with a vehicle seat belt system including a first buckle at a first end and a first prong at a second end to securely restrain a pet, the detachable safety belt comprising:
 an adjustable restraint strap having a webbing adjuster for adjusting and locking the adjustable restraint strap which is anchored at each of the first and second ends to the vehicle seat belt system, the adjustable restraint strap removably couplable to the torso of the pet by wrapping around a body portion of the pet for controllably restraining movement of the body of the pet.   
   
   
       12 . The detachable safety belt of  claim 11 , further comprising:
 a harness coupled to the adjustable restraint strap, the harness having a second buckle and a second prong to releasably couple to the first prong and first buckle of the vehicle seat belt system respectively for movably restraining movement of the body of the pet by holding the pet safely in response to an impact force that the vehicle to experience during at least one of a collision of the vehicle or sudden braking of the vehicle, wherein the adjustable restraint strap comprising:   a third buckle coupled to the first end and a third prong coupled to the second end for releasably coupling together.   
   
   
       13 . The detachable safety belt of  claim 12 , wherein the third buckle comprises a user operable buckle cover to adjust the length of the adjustable restraint strap. 
   
   
       14 . The detachable safety belt of  claim 12 , wherein the third buckle is an aircraft passenger seat buckle. 
   
   
       15 . The detachable safety belt of  claim 12 , wherein the second buckle is a vehicle seat belt buckle and the second prong is a vehicle seat belt prong. 
   
   
       16 . A method of providing a detachable seat belt for use with a pet in a vehicle having a passenger seat belt system including a vehicle seat belt prong and a vehicle seat belt buckle, the method comprising:
 providing a harness that is configured to releasably couple to the vehicle seat belt prong and the vehicle seat belt buckle of the passenger seat belt system; and   providing a seat belt webbing coupled to the harness, the seat belt webbing including a first side length having a first prong attached thereto and a second side length having a first buckle combined with a webbing adjuster for adjusting and locking the seat belt webbing.   
   
   
       17 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 enabling the webbing adjuster to securely grip and lock the seat belt webbing when the seat belt webbing is buckled and adjusted snugly across a torso of a pet during the at least one of a sudden deceleration of the vehicle or in response to an impact force that the vehicle to experience in a collision.   
   
   
       18 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 configuring the harness to form a loop that releasably couples to the passenger seat belt system when the vehicle seat belt prong passes through the loop before coupling to the vehicle seat belt buckle.   
   
   
       19 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the harness having a first and a second harness end, the method further comprising:
 at the first harness end of the harness, providing a second prong coupled thereto; and   at the second harness end of the harness, providing a second buckle coupled thereto for releasably coupling the seat belt webbing to the passenger seat belt system.   
   
   
       20 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 providing a buckle cover for the first buckle for use with the webbing adjuster for lengthening and shortening the seat belt webbing.
