Abstract

The present invention is a composition, preferably a cleanser, comprising sulfur, sodium sulfacetamide and at least one emulsifier with a low HLB number. These compositions are stable and may include moisturizers and humectants. Use of these compositions include treatments for acne rosacea, acne vulgaris and other skin disorders.

1 . A composition comprising
 water,   glycerin,   methyl paraben,   propyl paraben,   allantoin,   edetate disodium,   sodium methyl oleyltaurate,   disodium oleamido mea sulfosuccinate,   propylene glycol (and) PEG-55 propylene glycol oleate,   sodium cocoyl isethionate,   sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (and) disodium laureth sulfosuccinate,   cetyl alcohol,   stearyl alcohol,   sorbitan monooleate,   glyceryl stearate (and) PEG 100 stearate,   butylated hydroxytoluene,   alpha-bisabolol natural,   sulfur,   PEG-150 pentaerythrityl tetrastearate,   aloe vera gel,   sodium thiosulfate, and   sodium sulfacetamide.   
   
   
       2 . A composition comprising
 sulfur, sulfur-containing ingredient, and at least one emulsifier, wherein the emulsifier has a low HLB number.   
   
   
       3 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the sulfur-containing ingredient comprises sodium sulfacetamide. 
   
   
       4 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the emulsifier comprises sorbitan monooleate. 
   
   
       5 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the low HLB number is no greater than about 8. 
   
   
       6 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the low HLB number is no greater than about 5. 
   
   
       7 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein a combined HLB number of all emulsifiers is about 8. 
   
   
       8 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein a combined HLB number of all emulsifiers is no greater than about 8. 
   
   
       9 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the pH is about 7.0. 
   
   
       10 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the pH is about 5 to about 8. 
   
   
       11 . The composition of  claim 2  further comprising one or more moisturizers. 
   
   
       12 . The composition of  claim 4  wherein the moisturizer is selected from the group consisting of aloe vera, bisabolol, and allantoin. 
   
   
       13 . The composition of  claim 2  further comprising a oil phase of about 2 to about 5% of the composition. 
   
   
       14 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the composition has a viscosity of about 5000 cps to about 70,000 cps on a Brookfield RVTD viscometer at about 25° C. with a spindle set for 20 rpm for 1 minute. 
   
   
       15 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the composition has a viscosity of about 35,000 cps to about 45,000 cps on a Brookfield RVTD viscometer at about 25° C. with a spindle set for 20 rpm for 1 minute. 
   
   
       16 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the composition has a viscosity of about 25,000 cps to about 35,000 cps on a Brookfield RVTD viscometer at about 25° C. with a spindle set for 20 rpm for 1 minute. 
   
   
       17 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the sulfur is present up to about 5%. 
   
   
       18 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the sodium sulfacetamide is present up to about 10%. 
   
   
       19 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the emulsifier comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of sodium methyl oleyltaurate, disodium oleamido mea sulfosuccinate, PEG-55 propylene glycol oleate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, sorbitan monooleate, glyceryl stearate and PEG-100 stearate. 
   
   
       20 . The composition of  claim 2  further comprising at least one emulsifier, which has a high HLB number. 
   
   
       21 . The composition of  claim 20  wherein the high HLB number is about 35 to about 40. 
   
   
       22 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the composition comprises an oil-in-water emulsion. 
   
   
       23 . The composition of  claim 2  wherein the composition comprises a suspension.

 water at about 48.66%,   glycerin at about 2%,   methyl paraben at about 0.15%,   propyl paraben at about 0.05%,   allantoin at about 0.10%,   sodium methyl oleyltaurate at about 9.15%,   disodium oleamido MEA sulfosuccinate at about 3.85,   sodium cocoyl isethionate at about 6.50%,   sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (and) disodium laureth sulfoccinate at about 4.50%,   cetyl alcohol at about 1.00,   stearyl alcohol at about 1.50%,   sorbitan monooleate at about 2.00%,   glyceryl stearate (and) PEG 100 stearate at about 2.00%,   butylated hydroxytoluene at about 0.15%,   alpha bisabolol natural at about 0.10%,   precipitated sulfur at about 5.00%,   propylene glycol (and) PEG-55 propylene Glycol Oleate at about 1.35%,   PEG-150 pentaerythrityl tetrastearate at about 0.15%,   edetate disodium at about 0.20%,   aloe vera gel at about 0.10%,   sodium thiosulfate at about 0.15%, and   sulfacetamide sodium at about 11.24%.   
   
   
       26 . The composition of  claim 25  further comprises an additional about 3.00% water. 
   
   
       27 . A method of treating acne vulgaris comprising applying to skin a composition comprising sulfur, sulfur-containing ingredient, and at least one emulsifier, wherein the emulsifier has a low HLB number. 
   
   
       28 . A method of preventing acne vulgaris comprising applying to skin a composition comprising sulfur, sulfur-containing ingredient, and at least one emulsifier, wherein the emulsifier has a low HLB number. 
   
   
       29 . A method of treating acne rosacea comprising applying to skin a composition comprising sulfur, sulfur-containing ingredient, and at least one emulsifier, wherein the emulsifier has a low HLB number. 
   
   
       30 . A method of preventing acne rosacea comprising applying to skin a composition comprising sulfur, sulfur-containing ingredient, and at least one emulsifier, wherein the emulsifier has a low HLB number.
