Abstract

The invention provides novel polynucleotides and polypeptides encoded by such polynucleotides and mutants or versants thereof that correspond to a novel human secreted stem cell growth factor-like polypeptides. Other aspects of the invention include vectors containing processes for producing novel human secreted stem cell growth factor-like polypeptides, and antibodies specific for such polypeptides.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method of treating a bone or cartilage disease in a subject in need thereof, said method comprising administering to said subject a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence with at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:18 or 27.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence with at least 99% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:18 or 27.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 18 or 27.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method is for treating a bone disease.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein said bone disease is a bone degenerative disease.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein said bone degenerative disease is osteoporosis.

7 . The method of claim 4 , wherein said bone disease is osteoarthritis.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method is for treating periodontal disease.

9 . A method of stimulating cell proliferation comprising contacting a bone cell, a bone-forming cell or a cartilage cell with an amount of a polypeptide effective to promote proliferation of said cell, wherein said polypeptide comprises a cell proliferative amino acid sequence with at least 95% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:18 or 27.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein said polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence with at least 99% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:18 or 27.

11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein said polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 18 or 27.

12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein said method comprises contacting said cell in vitro.

13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein said method comprises contacting said cell in vivo.
