Treatment for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Abstract

A method for treating Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in humans and the symptoms associated therewith, inattentiveness, and hyperactivity with impulsivity, using eltoprazine and related compounds is provided.

1 . A solid dosage form for oral administration to a human comprising eltoprazine or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a component to slow the release of said eltoprazine or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof from said dosage form, said dosage form comprising an amount of said eltoprazine or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof from about 0.1 to 10 mg. 
   
   
       2 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , wherein said salt is a hydrochloride salt of eltoprazine. 
   
   
       3 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 2 , wherein said amount of a hydrochloride salt of eltoprazine is 10 mg. 
   
   
       4 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 3 , wherein said dosage form is a tablet. 
   
   
       5 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 3 , wherein said dosage form is a capsule. 
   
   
       6 . The solid dosage form according to any of  claims 4  or  5 , wherein said component is a slow-release coating. 
   
   
       7 . The solid dosage form according to any of  claims 4  or  5 , wherein said component is a slowly dissolving polymer carrier. 
   
   
       8 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 5 , wherein said capsule is filled with a liquid. 
   
   
       9 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 5 , wherein said capsule is filled with granules. 
   
   
       10 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , wherein said solid dosage form comprises microencapsulated eltoprazine. 
   
   
       11 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 8 , wherein said capsule contains said eltoprazine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is in a non-aqueous vehicle. 
   
   
       12 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 11 , wherein said non-aqueous vehicle is selected from the group consisting of oils, esters of glycerin, propylene glycol, and ethyl alcohol. 
   
   
       13 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , wherein said component is an enteric coating. 
   
   
       14 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , comprising carboxymethylcellulose 
   
   
       15 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone. 
   
   
       16 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , comprising microcrystalline cellulose. 
   
   
       17 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , comprising methylcellulose. 
   
   
       18 . The solid dosage form according to  claim 1 , comprising hydroxyethylcellulose.
