Abstract

A digital tuning error correction system for an integrated receiver and associated method are disclosed that provide an advantageous solution for combining digital signal processing (DSP) circuitry on the same integrated circuit as mixer and local oscillator (LO) generation circuitry.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An integrated receiver for frequency modulated signals having digital tuning error correction, comprising:
analog receive path circuitry coupled to receive an RF signal spectrum comprising a plurality of channels including frequency modulated (FM) signals, the analog receive path circuitry being configured to mix the RF signal spectrum down to a lower frequency to produce down-converted signals and being further configured to use mixing signals having a frequency based upon a desired channel to be tuned; digital conversion circuitry coupled to receive the down-converted signals and configured to produce digital output signals; digital processing circuitry configured to receive the digital output signals and to digitally process the digital output signals to demodulate and tune signals associated with the desired channel, the digital circuitry being further configured to determine a digital error signal associated with the digital output signals; automatic frequency control circuitry configured to output a frequency control signal based upon the digital error signal and the desired channel; frequency synthesizer circuitry configured to generate oscillation signals based at least in part upon the frequency control signal; and divider circuitry configured to receive the oscillation signals and to output the mixing signals to the analog receive path circuitry.

2 . A method for receiving frequency modulated radio frequency signals using digital tuning error correction, comprising:
receiving an RF signal spectrum comprising a plurality of channels including frequency modulated (FM) signals; mixing the RF signal spectrum with mixing signals to mix the RF signal spectrum down to a lower frequency to produce down-converted signals, the mixing signals having a frequency based upon a desired channel to be tuned; converting the down-converted signals to digital output signals; digitally processing the digital output signals to demodulate and tune signals associated with the desired channel and determining a digital error signal associated with the digital output signals; automatically generating a frequency control signal based upon the digital error signal and the desired channel; generating oscillation signals based at least in part upon the frequency control signal; and generating mixing signals based upon the oscillation signals.
