Abstract

A surveillance system and a computer readable medium is provided. The surveillance system includes a video capture device and a processor. The processor configured to write video from the video capture device to a first memory card, configured to determine when a capacity of the first memory card is reached, and configured to automatically write to a second memory card when the capacity of the first memory card is reached. The computer readable medium having stored thereon a set of instructions, which when executed by a computer having a processor and memory, cause the computer to perform operations, including writing data to a first storage medium, determining when a capacity of the first storage medium is reached, and automatically writing to a second storage medium when the capacity of the first storage medium is reached.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A surveillance system, comprising:
a video capture device; a processor configured to write video from the video capture device to a first memory card, configured to determine when a capacity of the first memory card is reached, and configured to automatically write to a second memory card when the capacity of the first memory card is reached.

2 . The surveillance system of claim 1 , wherein the capacity is full capacity.

3 . The surveillance system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second memory cards are housed within the video capture device.

4 . The surveillance system of claim 1 , wherein the video capture device is selected from a group consisting of a motion video camera, a still video camera, and a video card.

5 . The surveillance system of claim 1 , wherein the first memory card is to be housed in the video capture device.

6 . The surveillance system of claim 1 , further comprising a wireless transmitter to transmit a status of the first memory card, wherein the wireless transmitter is to transmit in accordance with a protocol, the protocol to be based on one of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11, 802.16, Wireless Universal Serial Bus (USB) or Bluetooth.

7 . The surveillance system of claim 1 , further comprising a switching component, coupled to the processor, to switch in response to a status of the first memory card, from writing on the first memory card to writing on the second memory card.

8 . The surveillance system of claim 7 , wherein the status is to indicate one of a full memory card full, a completed download, a completed upload, a completed read or a completed write.

9 . A computer readable medium having stored thereon a set of instructions, which when executed by a computer having a processor and memory, cause the computer to perform operations, comprising:
writing data to a first storage medium; determining when a capacity of the first storage medium is reached; and automatically writing to a second storage medium when the capacity of the first storage medium is reached.

10 . The computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the capacity is full capacity.

11 . The computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the data is transmitted from a video capture device, the first and second storage mediums being housed within the video capture device.

12 . The computer readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the video capture device is selected from a group consisting of a motion video camera, a still video camera, and a video card.

13 . The computer readable medium of claim 9 , further comprising wirelessly transmitting a status of the first storage medium to a processor.

14 . The computer readable medium of claim 9 , further comprising, in response to a status of the first storage medium, switching the writing from the first storage medium to writing on the second storage medium.

15 . The computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the status is to indicate one of a full memory card full, a completed download, a completed upload, a completed read or a completed write.

         16 . A surveillance system, comprising:
an imaging device; a memory card writer coupled to the imaging device, the memory card writer having a housing defining a first slot to receive a first memory card therein, and a memory card storage mechanism to store at least one second memory card therein, the storage mechanism is defined by a second slot to receive the second memory card therein; and a processor configured to write data from the imaging device to the first memory card, configured to determine when a capacity of the first memory card is reached, and configured to automatically write to the second memory card when the capacity of the first memory card is reached.

17 . The surveillance system of claim 16 , further comprising a wireless transmitter to transmit a status of the first memory card, wherein the wireless transmitter is to transmit in accordance with a protocol, the protocol to be based on one of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11, 802.16, Wireless Universal Serial Bus (USB) or Bluetooth.

18 . The surveillance system of claim 16 , further comprising a switching component, coupled to the processor, to switch in response to a status of the first memory card, from writing on the first memory card to writing on the second memory card.

19 . The surveillance system of claim 18 , wherein the status is to indicate one of a full memory card full, a completed download, a completed upload, a completed read or a completed write.

20 . The surveillance system of claim 16 , further comprising:
an ejection mechanism for ejecting the first memory card in response to an event; and a loading mechanism for loading the second memory card into the first slot in response to the ejection.
