Abstract

A chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids, purified to at least 85% purity through chromatography purification, the chemical composition contains enriched both sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecular species and sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecular species, the phospholipids are selected from the group consisting of: phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine. Methods using the above disclosed composition in mammals to treat various conditions.

A chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids, purified to at least 85% purity through chromatography purification, the chemical composition contains enriched both sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecular species and sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecular species, the phospholipids are selected from the group consisting of: phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine. 
   
   
       2 . The chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids of  claim 1 , wherein the said the sn-1-acyl fatty chains contain acyl fatty acid groups of 16 to 18 carbon atoms. 
   
   
       3 . The chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids of  claim 1 , wherein the said the sn-1-ether fatty chains contain alkyl and alkenyl fatty groups of 16 to 18 carbon atoms. 
   
   
       4 . The chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids of  claim 1 , wherein the enriched sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules range from about 20 to about 30% of the total molecular species of the phospholipids. 
   
   
       5 . The chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids of  claim 1 , wherein the said the enriched sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules range from 7-24% of the total molecular species of the phospholipids. 
   
   
       6 . A process for preparing a composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids that contain enriched both sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules and sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules, the process comprising:
 extracting phosphatidylcholine species mixtures from livers of saltwater fish; and   purifying the phosphatidylcholine species mixtures to at least 85% purity by chromatography purification.   
   
   
       7 . A process for preparing a composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids that contain enriched both sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid and sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules, the process comprising:
 transphosphatidylating a purified phosphatidylcholine species mixture into a phosphatidylserine species mixture, then purifying the phosphatidylserine species mixture to at least 85% purity by chromatography purification.   
   
   
       8 . A process for preparing a composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids that contain enriched both sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid and sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules, the process comprising:
 transphosphatidylating a purified phosphatidylcholine species mixture into a phosphatidylethanolamine species mixture; and   purifying the phosphsphatidylethanolamine species mixture to at least 85% purity by chromatography purification.   
   
   
       9 . The process of  claim 6  where the saltwater fish is selected from the group comprising: shark, tuna, salmon and common dolphinfish ( coryphaena hippurus ). 
   
   
       10 . A chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of lysophosphatidylcholine, purified to at least about 85% purity through chromatography purification, which contains enriched sn-1-docosahexaenoic acid molecules. 
   
   
       11 . The chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of lysophosphatidylcholine of  claim 10 , wherein the said enriched sn-1-docosahexaenoic acid molecules range from about 20 to about 40% of the total molecular species of the lysophosphatidylcholine. 
   
   
       12 . A process for preparing a composition of a molecular species mixture of lysophosphatidylcholine that contains the enriched sn-1-docosahexaenoic acid molecules, the process comprising:
 extracting lysophosphatidylcholine from a liver of a saltwater fish; and   purifying the lysophosphatidylcholine to at least 85% purity by chromatography purification.   
   
   
       13 . The process of  claim 12  where the saltwater fish is selected from the group consisting of: shark, tuna, salmon and common dolphinfish ( coryphaena ).

A chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids, purified to at least 90% purity through chromatography purification, the chemical composition contains sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosaheaxnoic acid species only and does not contain sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid species, the phospholipids are selected from the group consisting of: phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine. 
   
   
       15 . The chemical composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids of  claim 14 , wherein the said the sn-1-ether fatty chains contain alkyl and alkenyl fatty groups of 16 to 18 carbon atoms. 
   
   
       16 . A process for preparing a composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids that contain sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules only and does not contain sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules, the process comprising:
 acylating the sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-hydroxyl lysophosphatidylcholine species mixture, obtained by a hydrolysis of purified fish liver phosphatidylcholine species mixture, with free docosahexaenoic acid into a phosphatidylcholine species mixture; and   purifying the phosphatidylcholine species mixture, to at least 90% purity by chromatography purification.   
   
   
       17 . A process for preparing a composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids that contains sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules only and does not contain sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules, the process comprising:
 transphosphatidylating a purified phosphatidylcholine species mixture into a phosphatidylserine species mixture; and   purifying the phosphatidylserine species mixture to at least 90% purity by chromatography purification.   
   
   
       18 . A process for preparing a composition of a molecular species mixture of phospholipids that contain sn-1-ether fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules only and does not contain sn-1-acyl fatty chains/sn-2-docosahexaenoic acid molecules, the process comprising:
 transphosphatidylating a purified phosphatidylcholine species mixture into a phosphatidylethanolamine species mixture; and   purifying the phosphatidylethanolamine species mixture to at least 90% purity by chromatography purification.
