Abstract
Disclosed are processes for the synthesis of novel compounds that are A 2B adenosine receptor antagonists, useful for treating various disease states, including asthma and diarrhea.

2 . The intermediate of claim 1 , wherein R 1 is n-propyl and R 2 is ethyl:
namely 6-[2-(dimethylamino)-1-azavinyl]-1-ethyl-3-propyl-1,3-dihydropyrimidine-2,4-dione.

wherein R 1 is n-propyl or cyclopropylmethyl.
