Abstract

A method of storing on a remote storage device protocol information for a drug for administration via a peristaltic pump is disclosed. A communications path between the peristaltic pump and the remote storage device is provided. The protocol information for the drug is entered into the peristaltic pump. The protocol information is transferred from the peristaltic pump to the remote storage device. The protocol information for the drug is stored on the remote storage device. History information may be retrieved from the peristaltic pump. A user request is received requesting retrieval of history information from the peristaltic pump. A pump request is formatted to retrieve history information. The pump request to receive history information is transmitted to the peristaltic pump. The history information is received from the peristaltic pump. The history information is displayed and stored.

25 . A method for remotely operating an infusion pump from a remote computing device in communication with the pump, the method comprising the steps of:
displaying, on the remote computing device, a list of stored prescriptions; displaying, on the remote computing device, information in a chosen one of the stored prescriptions, the information including precautions associated with the chosen prescription; receiving a send prescription command inputted at the remote computing device; displaying the precautions in a precautions window in response to the send prescription command, the precautions window including a first button for entering a confirming command indicating the precautions have been reviewed and a second button for entering a cancel command canceling the send prescription command; receiving a confirming command inputted at the remote computing device by pressing the first button; and sending the chosen prescription to the pump.

26 . The method according to claim 25 , wherein the precautions window is displayed on the remote computing device.

27 . The method according to claim 25 , further comprising the step of enabling the precautions to be edited at the remote computing device before the chosen prescription is sent to the pump.

28 . The method according to claim 25 , further comprising the step of receiving a library selection command inputted at the remote computing device, the library selection command indicating a library of stored prescriptions accessible by the computing device, wherein the selected library is used to populate the displayed list of stored prescriptions.
