Trick Mode Operations
Abstract
Systems and methods for trick mode operation in a digital home communication terminal (DHCT) are disclosed. One such method comprises receiving a plurality of parameters describing trick mode operations for a stored program. The method also comprises selecting multiple picture sets, from the stored program, based at least in part on the parameters. The method also comprises decoding the selected multiple picture sets for a duration specified in the plurality of parameters, to produce a plurality of decoded pictures. The method also comprises displaying the decoded pictures. The method also comprises selectively repeating the decode or the display of one of the pictures in the selected multiple picture sets, based on the parameters.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for trick mode operation in a digital home communication terminal (DHCT), the method comprising:
receiving a plurality of parameters describing trick mode operations for a stored program; selecting multiple picture sets, from the stored program, based at least in part on the parameters; and decoding the selected multiple picture sets for a duration specified in the plurality of parameters, to produce a plurality of decoded pictures; displaying the decoded pictures; and selectively repeating the decode or the display of one of the pictures in the selected multiple picture sets, based on the parameters.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the parameters include an entry point, and the determining further comprises:
determining the entry point based on at least one of a number of pictures, a number of a specific type of pictures, a start code, and a time.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining further comprises:
determining the parameters based on a timestamp of a currently viewed picture in the stored program.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining a number of decoded pictures needed to produce a full picture.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining a number of decoded pictures needed in a given time interval.
6 . A method for trick mode operation in a digital home communication terminal (DHCT), the method comprising:
receiving a plurality of parameters describing trick mode operations for a stored program; selecting multiple overlapping picture sets, from the stored program, based at least in part on the parameters; and decoding the selected multiple overlapping picture sets, for a duration specified in the plurality of parameters, to produce a plurality of decoded pictures; and displaying the decoded pictures.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of parameters includes a trick mode speed and wherein the number of selected multiple overlapping picture sets is based on the duration and a number of picture sets that is decoded in the duration at normal speed.
8 . A method for trick mode operation in a digital home communication terminal (DHCT), the method comprising:
receiving a plurality of parameters describing trick mode operations for a stored program; selecting multiple discontiguous picture sets, from the stored program, based at least in part on the parameters; and decoding the selected multiple discontiguous picture sets, for a duration specified in the plurality of parameters, to produce a plurality of decoded pictures; and displaying the decoded pictures.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of parameters includes a trick mode speed and wherein the number of selected multiple overlapping picture sets is based on the duration and a number of picture sets that is decoded in the duration at normal speed.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of parameters includes a trick mode speed and wherein the number of selected multiple overlapping picture sets is based on the duration and a number of picture sets that is decoded in the duration at normal speed.Cited by (0)
