Abstract

A floor joist raceway for securement to a building floor as a support for overhead internal wall structures of a framed wall. An uninterrupted cavity for wires and cables is provided between a horizontally disposed top member and bottom member held in position by a vertical support member and planar member providing shear support.

1 . A floor joist having a raceway for securement to a building floor as a support for overhead internal wall structures, comprising:
 a horizontally disposed top member having a length;   a horizontally disposed bottom member having said length;   a vertical support member having a first end and second end;   means of engagement of said first end to said top member;   means of engagement of said second end to said bottom member;   a vertically disposed planar member engaged along a first edge to said top member and along a second edge to said bottom member;   said planar member engaged to said top member and said bottom member for substantially said entire length;   said planar member providing means to resist shearing forces imparted said floor joist;   an axial passage formed between said top member and said bottom ember and said planar member and said vertical support member; and   said axial passage accessible through an elongated gap between said top member and said bottom member, said gap interrupted only by said vertical support members, whereby said bottom member is engageable to a support surface and said top member is engageable to an internal structure of an overhead wall supported by said top member.   
   
   
       2 . The floor joist raceway of  claim 1  additionally comprising:
 said means of engagement of said first end to said top member being an “L” shaped first bracket having a horizontal portion and a vertical portion;   said first bracket having apertures communicating through said horizontal portion and said vertical portion;   fasteners engaged through said apertures and securing said horizontal portion to a bottom surface and said vertical portion to a side surface of said top member;   said means of engagement of said second end to said bottom member being an “L” shaped second bracket having a horizontal portion and a vertical portion;   said second bracket having apertures communicating through said horizontal portion and said vertical portion thereof; and   fasteners engaged through said apertures of said second bracket and securing said horizontal portion to an upper surface of said bottom member and said vertical portion to a first side surface of said bottom member.   
   
   
       3 . The floor joist raceway of  claim 1  additionally comprising:
 said vertically disposed planar member engaged along said first upon a second side surface of said top member, and along said second edge to a second side surface of said bottom member.   
   
   
       4 . The floor joist raceway of  claim 2  additionally comprising:
 said vertically disposed planar member engaged along said first upon a second side surface of said top member opposite said first side surface of said top member, and along said second edge to a second side surface of said bottom member opposite said first side surface of said bottom member.   
   
   
       5 . The floor joist raceway of  claim 1  additionally comprising:
 mounting apertures formed in said vertical support member;   said mounting apertures adapted to engage with an electrical box for an electrical socket or network connection; and   said mounting apertures positioned to engage with mating apertures in an electrical box and hold said electrical box a predetermined distance from said building floor, said predetermined distance being a building code required position for said electrical box above said floor.   
   
   
       6 . The floor joist raceway of  claim 2  additionally comprising:
 mounting apertures formed in said vertical support member;   said mounting apertures adapted to engage with an electrical box for an electrical socket or network connection; and   said mounting apertures positioned to engage with mating apertures in an electrical box and hold said electrical box a predetermined distance from said building floor, said predetermined distance being a building code required position for said electrical box above said floor.   
   
   
       7 . The floor joist raceway of  claim 3  additionally comprising:
 mounting apertures formed in said vertical support member;   said mounting apertures adapted to engage with an electrical box for an electrical socket or network connection; and   said mounting apertures positioned to engage with mating apertures in an electrical box and hold said electrical box a predetermined distance from said building floor, said predetermined distance being a building code required position for said electrical box above said floor.   
   
   
       8 . The floor joist raceway of  claim 4  additionally comprising:
 mounting apertures formed in said vertical support member;   said mounting apertures adapted to engage with an electrical box for an electrical socket or network connection; and   said mounting apertures positioned to engage with mating apertures in an electrical box and hold said electrical box a predetermined distance from said building floor, said predetermined distance being a building code required position for said electrical box above said floor.
