Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A mail transfer agent for operating with a plurality of workstations in a first domain, the mail transfer agent comprising instructions, executable by a processor, to:
receive in the first domain a first e-mail from a first workstation that is in the first domain, the first e-mail having an e-mail header containing a respective interval set at the first workstation, and a respective retransmit maximum count set at the first workstation; remove, in the first domain, the respective interval and respective retransmit maximum count from the e-mail header of the first email; subsequently, send the first e-mail to another mail transfer agent, the other mail transfer agent being in a domain different from the first domain; periodically query a database to determine if the following condition is true: ((the respective interval has elapsed since the first e-mail has been sent) AND (a reply has not been received to the first e-mail)); conditionally resend the first e-mail, to the other mail transfer agent, depending on a result of the querying; compare, in the first domain, the respective retransmit maximum count to a number times the first e-mail has been sent; conditionally send an e-mail to the first workstation, depending on a result of the comparing receive, in the first domain, a second e-mail from a second workstation that is in the first domain, the second e-mail having an e-mail header containing a respective interval set at the second workstation, and a respective retransmit maximum count set at the second workstation; remove, in the first domain, the respective interval and respective retransmit maximum count from the e-mail header of the second email; subsequently, send the second e-mail to the other mail transfer agent; periodically query a database to determine if the following condition is true: ((the respective interval has elapsed since the second e-mail has been sent) AND (a reply has not been received to the second e-mail)); conditionally resend the second e-mail, to the other mail transfer agent, depending on a result of the querying; compare, in the first domain, the respective retransmit maximum count to a number times the second e-mail has been sent; and conditionally send an e-mail to the second workstation, depending on a result of the comparing.
