Abstract

The invention encompasses liquid cleaning compositions, for example, dish washing liquids, and methods of their manufacture and use, which possess enhanced cleaning ability. The cleaning compositions of the invention include acidic light duty liquid cleaning compositions with low toxicity and antibacterial efficacy on surfaces, for example, hard surfaces.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A cleaning composition comprising:
 a) a surfactant system consisting essentially of at least one zwitterionic surfactant or a salt thereof and at least one of surfactants selected from the group consisting of:
 (i) a sodium salt of an alkyl benzene sulfonate, and
(ii) a sodium salt of an alkyl ethoxylated ether sulfate; and
   b) lactic acid or a salt thereof, wherein the lactic acid or salt thereof is present in an amount of about 1 wt. % to about 2.5 wt. % by weight of the total composition, wherein the cleaning composition is nearly colorless.

2 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the alkyl benzene sulfonate is a C 10 -C 14 linear alkyl benzene sulfonate.

3 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the alkyl ethoxylated ether sulfate is sodium lauryl ether sulfate with about two ethylene oxide units.

4 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the zwitterionic surfactant is a betaine.

5 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the alkyl benzene sulfonate is sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate.

6 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the zwitterionic surfactant is laurylamidopropyl betaine.

7 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the cleaning composition further comprises one or more viscosity modifiers.

8 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the cleaning composition further comprises one or more hydrotropes.

9 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the cleaning composition further comprises one or more fragrance agents.

10 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the cleaning composition further comprises one or more coloring agents, preservative. diluents. chelating agents, or combinations thereof.

       18 . (canceled)

19 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the zwitterionic surfactant is present in an amount of about 1 wt. % to about 7 wt. % by weight of the total composition.

20 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the zwitterionic surfactant is present in an amount of about 2 wt. % to about 6 wt. % by weight of the total composition.

21 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the zwitterionic surfactant is present in an amount of about 5.5 wt. % to about 6.5 wt. % by weight of the total composition.

22 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the lactic acid is present in an amount of about 2 wt. % by weight of the total composition.

23 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the lactic acid is present in an amount of about 1 wt. % by weight of the total composition.

24 . The cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a viscosity modifier, which is gellan gum.

       28 . A cleaning composition comprising:
 a) a surfactant system consisting essentially of laurylamidoprpyl betain or a salt thereof in an amount of about 1 wt. % to about 8 wt. % by weight of the total composition and at least one of
 (i) sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, and
(ii) sodium lauryl ether sulfate with about two EO units: and
   b) lactic acid or a salt thereof, wherein the acid or salt thereof is present in an amount of about 1 wt. % to about 3 wt. % by weight of the total composition.

29 . A method of cleaning a surface comprising contacting the surface with a composition of claim 1 .
