Abstract

The use of IL-22 for the treatment of metabolic disorders including hyperlipidemia, obesity, hyperinsulinemia and diabetics. IL-22 may also be used in combination with insulin for diabetics.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
. A method of treating a metabolic disorder, or a medical condition or disease associated therewith, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a polypeptide consisting essentially of IL-22 or a known functional derivative thereof.

. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the metabolic disorder or medical condition or disease comprises obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia or hyperinsulinemia.

. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of insulin or a known functional derivative thereof.

. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide consisting essentially of IL-22 is provided with, and expressed by, a pharmaceutically acceptable and therapeutically effective expression system.

. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the expression system synthesizes an in vivo effective amount of the polypeptide consisting essentially of IL-22.

. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide consists essentially of human IL-22 or mouse IL-22.

. A method of reducing body weight in a subject, said method comprising administering to sadi subject an effective amount of IL-22.

. Use of IL-22 or functional derivatives thereof for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of metabolic disorders.

. Use of IL-22 for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of maetabolic disorders.

. The use according to claim 9 wherein said metabolic disorder comprises a condition selected form a group consisting of obesity. diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia.

. Use of IL-22 or functional derivatives thereof for the manufacture of a medicament for the reduction of body weight.

. Use of IL-22 for the manufacture of a medicament for the reduction of body weight.

. Use a combination of IL-22 and insulin for the treatment of blood glucose disorders.

. A method of treating a metabolic disorder, or medical condition or disease associated therewith, comprising
delivering to a subject in need of treatment a polynucleotide comprising a DNA that encodes a polypeptide consisting essentially of IL-22 delivery system; providing an expression system for the polypeptide encoding DNA; and allowing the in vivo expression of a therapeutic amount of the polypeptide.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein the metabolic disorder or medical condition or disease comprises or is associated with obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia or hyperinsulinemia.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein the gene delivery system comprises at least one of a retroviral vector(s), adenoviral vector(s), or liposome-mediated director plasmid delivery, or receptor-mediated gene delivery.

. The method of claim 14 , which comprises gene therapy alone, or in combination with another known therapy(ies).

. The method of claim 14 , further comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of insulin or a known functional derivative thereof.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein the expression system synthesizes an in vivo effective amount of the polypeptide consisting essentially of IL-22.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein the polypeptide consists essentially of human IL-22 or mouse IL-22.
