Abstract

Methods for dispensing eyeglasses are disclosed. The methods involve making a subjective refraction and an objective refraction and sending the information to a calculation computer to combine both refractions to calculate the person's prescription. The person's prescription is subsequently sent to a manufacturing location separate from the calculation computer for manufacture of the lenses.

1 . A method, comprising:
 making one or more refractions of a person to determine information about the person's vision;   entering the information about person's vision based on the one or more refractions into a first computer system;   sending the information about the person's vision to a second computer system, the second computer system being configured to perform calculations based on information about the person's vision and generate prescription information, the second computer being in a separate location from the first computer;   receiving, at the first computer from the second computer, the prescription information; and   placing an order for a lens based on the prescription information by sending the prescription information from the first computer to a third computer associated with a lens manufacturing site, the third computer being in a separate location from the first computer and the second computer.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the first computer comprises an ordering computer, the second computer comprises a calculation computer, and the third computer comprises a manufacturing computer. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more refractions comprises a subjective refraction and an objective refraction. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the objective refraction is derived from a wavefront measurement of one or both of the person's eyes determining information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the objective refraction is derived from a ray tracing method of one or both of the person's eyes determining information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the objective refraction is derived from a tomographic method of one or both of the person's eyes determining information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the objective refraction is derived from a corneal topography method of one or both of the person's eyes determining information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes corneas. 
     
     
         8 . A method, comprising:
 receiving, at a second computer from a first computer, information about a person's vision including subjective refraction information and objective refraction information, the second computer being in a separate location from the first computer and in a separate location from a third computer associated with a lens manufacturing site;   performing, using the second computer, calculations to generate a lens prescription based on the information about the person's vision; and   sending the lens prescription to the first computer.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , further comprising receiving revised information at the second computer from the first computer based on the lens prescription;
 performing calculations at the second computer to generate a revised lens prescription based on the revised information; and   sending the revised prescription to the first computer.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 8 , further comprising sending the lens prescription from the first computer to the third computer. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the first computer comprises an ordering computer, the second computer comprises a calculation computer, and the third computer comprises a manufacturing computer. 
     
     
         12 . A method comprising:
 making a subjective refraction of a person to determine information about the person's vision;   making a wavefront measurement of one or both of the person's eyes to determine information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes;   sending the information about the person's vision and the information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes from an ordering computer in the eye care processional's office to a calculation computer located in a location separate from the eye care professional's office;   receiving, at the ordering computer, prescription information from the calculation computer; and   ordering eyeglass lenses based on the prescription by sending the prescription information to a manufacturing computer.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the objective refraction is derived from a wavefront measurement of one or both of the person's eyes determining information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the objective refraction is derived from a ray tracing method of one or both of the person's eyes determining information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the objective refraction is derived from a tomographic method of one or both of the person's eyes determining information about the optical properties of one or both of the person's eyes. 
     
     
         16 . A system, comprising:
 an input interface configured to input information about a person's vision determined on the basis of a subjective refraction;   a device configured to get information about a person's vision determined on the basis of an objective refraction;   a calculating device configured to calculate a prescription for the person based on the information about the person's vision determined by subjective refraction and based on the information about the person's vision determined by objective refraction; and   an outputting interface configured to output the prescription, wherein the calculation device is located in a separate location from the input interface, the output interface, and a manufacturing location.
